POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Sr. Business Advisor, Strategy at BDC Advisory Services, you will serve as a senior strategic advisor to entrepreneurs and executive teams navigating critical moments of growth, leadership, transformation, and ownership transition. This role operates at the intersection of enterprise strategy, business transfer, and organizational leadership, with a mandate to create durable, long‑term value for Canadian SMEs.
You will lead complex, customized advisory engagements focused on enterprise‑level strategic planning, growth acceleration, and business transition (including succession planning, mergers, and acquisitions). Leveraging deep expertise in strategic management, emerging technologies (including artificial intelligence), and change leadership, you will help clients make high‑stakes decisions, manage risk, and translate strategy into executable outcomes.
In addition to client impact, you will play a key leadership role in shaping and advancing the Strategy Centre of Expertise—contributing to thought leadership, solution development, market visibility, and business development initiatives. This position requires strong executive presence, commercial acumen, and the ability to influence both clients and internal stakeholders at the most senior levels.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Provide executive‑level strategic advisory leadership to entrepreneurs and senior management teams, delivering high‑impact standard and customized consulting mandates. Engagements focus on enterprise‑level strategic diagnosis, growth planning, organizational effectiveness, and leadership decision‑making within complex SME environments.
Own accountability for mandate outcomes, overseeing multiple concurrent engagements and ensuring delivery excellence across scope, budget, timelines, and strategic objectives. Establish strong governance, risk management, and quality assurance standards across all deliverables.
Act as a senior trusted advisor and thought leader, bringing deep market insight and practical experience to guide entrepreneurs through ambiguity, transformation, and change. Continuously monitor market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging practices to shape advisory perspectives and client recommendations.
Practice development and evolution, contributing to the design, refinement, and scaling of advisory solutions, tools, and methodologies. Influence the strategic direction of the practice by identifying gaps, emerging client needs, and opportunities for differentiated offerings.
Drive business development and revenue growth, supporting senior client managers in complex sales situations through executive‑level diagnostics, value framing, and proposal development. Participate directly in strategic pursuits, client conversations, and the origination of new mandates.
Serve as a senior connector across the organization, enabling effective collaboration between advisors, delivery teams, and client relationship leaders. Ensure strong transfer of knowledge, alignment on client strategy, and continuity across advisory engagements.
Represent the practice externally, contributing to outreach, thought leadership, and market visibility through content development, speaking opportunities, and participation in targeted events promoting Business Organizational Capabilities solutions.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline; MBA or equivalent professional designation strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in a consulting environment, including senior responsibility for strategic planning, executive advisory, and one‑on‑one leadership coaching, ideally within SME or mid‑market contexts.
Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and practical levels—shaping enterprise‑level strategy while ensuring plans are executable, measurable, and relevant to entrepreneurial realities.
Proven track record in leading complex consulting engagements, managing risk, ensuring quality, and delivering sustained client value across multiple mandates.
Strong command of project and engagement management methodologies, with the ability to oversee portfolios of work rather than single projects.
Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills, with credibility to influence senior stakeholders, support high‑stakes business development efforts, and represent the practice externally.
Highly developed relationship‑building and collaboration skills, with experience working across multidisciplinary teams and influencing without direct authority.
Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
