Title and Summary

Senior BizOps Engineer

Overview

The Business Operations (BizOps) team is seeking a Senior Business Operations Engineer (Senior BizOps SRE) to serve as a production readiness steward for critical Mastercard platforms. BizOps partners closely with engineering, product, and release teams to ensure that reliability, resiliency, compliance, and operational excellence are embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
BizOps plays a key role in driving Mastercard’s DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) transformation by enabling shift‑left practices, advocating operational standards, and continuously improving how services are designed, built, released, and supported. Our teams operate with a strong focus on customer experience, business impact, and risk mitigation across all environments.

Role

As a Senior BizOps Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring platform stability, availability, and operational health while acting as a trusted partner to development teams. You will help break down operational barriers by promoting developer‑run ownership, enforcing operational standards, and enabling resilient system design.
You will engage across the full service lifecycle—design, build, launch, run, and optimize—providing continuous feedback to development partners to improve reliability, scalability, and customer experience. This role requires a strong systems mindset, deep operational expertise, and the ability to connect technical events to business outcomes.
Senior BizOps Engineers also play a leadership role within the team by mentoring junior engineers, influencing best practices, and helping evolve BizOps operating models and automation strategies.

All About You

Act as the production readiness and reliability steward for assigned platforms, ensuring systems are stable, scalable, and compliant.
Engage early in the development lifecycle to influence operational design, resiliency patterns, capacity planning, monitoring, and automation.
Analyze ITSM signals (incidents, problems, changes) to identify systemic gaps and provide actionable feedback to engineering teams.
Support services prior to go‑live through run readiness reviews, operational gating, and launch validation.
Maintain live services by monitoring availability, latency, performance, and overall system health using observability tooling.
Drive automation and self‑healing initiatives to reduce toil and improve mean time to recovery (MTTR).
Lead and participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and blameless post‑mortems with a strong focus on learning and prevention.
Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and DevOps best practices across environments.
Take a holistic approach to problem solving by correlating signals across application, infrastructure, network, and security layers.
Partner with global teams across time zones and provide on‑call support as part of a 24/7 operational model.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing, standards definition, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience

Strong experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, DevOps, or Business Operations Engineering roles.
Hands‑on experience across the service lifecycle: design, deployment, operations, and optimization.
Proficiency with automation and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, XL Release, Git‑based workflows, and infrastructure or configuration automation.
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or equivalent platforms.
Scripting and automation skills using Python, shell scripting, Jenkins pipelines, or Groovy.
Solid understanding of networking concepts including load balancers (F5), firewalls, and traffic management.
Experience with certificate management, renewal automation, and production change governance.
Strong incident management, root cause analysis, and stakeholder communication skills.
