About the opportunity
Join our Core Systems domain as a Senior Backend Engineer within the GDPR Team. You will be part of the Reporting layer, where all systems responsible for reporting live and breathe. As one of the early engineers in this growing team—currently composed of two engineers with a new PM joining soon—you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our global banking platform remains compliant and secure.
In this role, you will take ownership of the internal platforms used for GDPR-compliant data retention and deletion across N26. This position offers a unique blend of platform engineering and cross-functional collaboration, where you will map microservices to data types and migrate legacy deletion logic into modern, consolidated systems.
This is a hybrid role from our offices in either Berlin or Barcelona.
In this role, you will:
- Platform Ownership: Maintain and evolve internal platforms for GDPR-compliant data retention and deletion.
- Service Onboarding: Onboard teams and services to the GDPR platform, clarifying scope while ensuring robust monitoring and clear ownership.
- Data Type Discovery: Collaborate with the Legal Data Privacy Team to map microservices to Core Systems Domain GDPR data types and retention periods.
- Process Improvement: Migrate and consolidate GDPR deletion logic, such as moving from legacy stored procedures to modern client solutions.
- Support & Guidance: Provide technical and compliance support to other teams regarding GDPR requirements.
- Architecture & Development: Collaborate closely with your Tech Lead on architecting new features and seeing them through to completion.
- Quality & Mentorship: Design, develop, test, and deploy software while mentoring junior members through code quality guards and pull requests.
- Innovation: Stay up to date with the latest trends and propose findings during our Get Stuff Done Days (GSDD).
What you need to be successful:
- Background & Skills:
- Experience in developing software using a JVM language and Spring Boot in large-scale production systems; Kotlin experience is a plus.
- Sound understanding of microservice architecture.
- Knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases, preferably Postgres.
- Appreciation of working in a modern cloud architecture, preferably with AWS.
