Position Summary
The Senior Automation Support Engineer II supports large, high‑throughput customer sites during system launches, including go‑live, ramp‑up, and hyper‑care phases. This role is critical to ensuring system stability, rapid incident recovery, and clear communication in live, high‑volume operations.
You will work directly with customer on‑site technical teams as a trusted technical expert, coaching them through troubleshooting, stabilization, and operational readiness. During incidents, you serve as the primary technical liaison between the customer site and Vanderlande, driving effective diagnostics, escalation, and resolution.
The role operates in fast‑paced environments where flexibility is essential. Launch activities may require nights, weekends, and extended on‑site assignments (typically 2–4 weeks). When not supporting new launches, you will provide remote technical support to existing customer sites via the North American Service Center (NASC).
This position specializes in Vanderlande Cross Belt Sorter (SCS) controls, utilizing Siemens IPC platforms and Profinet industrial networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and troubleshoot Cross Belt Sorter (SCS) systems on‑site and remotely
- Provide technical support during go‑live, ramp‑up, and hyper‑care phases
- Act as the primary technical link between customer sites and the NASC
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and perform root‑cause analysis during incidents
- Provide clear technical guidance and escalate issues when necessary
- Work effectively under time pressure in live production environments
- Document incidents, findings, and corrective actions
- Maintain strict adherence to safety standards when working on or near live systems
Required Qualifications
- Education or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in automation or controls support
- Hands‑on experience with industrial networks (Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- Experience with distributed control architectures
- On‑site commissioning or launch support experience
- 5+ years supporting material handling or automated logistics systems
