Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

We are seeking an energetic candidate for the position of Charging Automation engineer within GM’s Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls End to End Charging Verification group at the Milford Proving Ground (MPG). This role provides the opportunity to work cohesively with a group of engineers responsible for the integration of electrification systems, features and controls. It involves in-vehicle and hardware in loop (HIL) bench work for both planned and unplanned testing and collaboration with calibration, algorithm/software and controls engineers. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in automated and manual testing, particularly with Autobot, and has a deep understanding of web and mobile application testing, CI/CD pipelines as well as electrification feature knowledge. They will exhibit excellent leadership and collaboration as well along with vehicle and instrumentation troubleshooting skills and serving as a mentor to others.
What You’ll Do:
Automation Development: Design, implement, and maintain automated test scripts for vehicle charging features using Python, Autobot and GitHub
Quality Assurance Leadership: Define and enforce quality standards, create test plans, and develop testing strategies for web and mobile applications, and charging features
Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using platforms like GitHub actions to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality testing
Promote efficiencies via tool development and identify redundancies / gaps
Identify additional automation virtualization opportunities and lead their implementation
Defect Tracking and Reporting: Identify, log, and track defects using tools like JIRA/Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS), and work closely with stakeholders to resolve issues efficiently
Collaboration: Work with product managers, developers, feature owners and quality engineers to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage
Mentorship: Guide and mentor others in processes, best practices, frameworks, and tools
Safety: Adhere to all safety precautions and requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related
5+ years of relevant technical experience with at least three in automation/scripting
Strong Python programming skills
Strong understanding of mobile application ecosystems, including Android and iOS environments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitHub, or Azure DevOps
Understanding/experience with version control systems such as Git
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including independent judgment and decision-making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
Ability to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to leadership
Act with urgency and time management skills to meet deliverables and manage multiple projects and unplanned work
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
Technical leadership and mentoring skills
Ability to prioritize work with limited direction
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass MPG advanced driver’s training
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications):
Master or PhD degree in Engineering
8+ years of test automation experience, including developing automated tests for web and mobile applications
3+ years of experience with electrification, calibration, and controls experience
Proficient with INCA / MDA / CANalyzer / Vehicle Spy
Knowledge of vehicle and feature development along with engineering test procedures
Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and Subsystem/Features in vehicle charging
Experience working with vehicles / HIL benches and integration issues
Experience with serial data buses, including LIN, CAN, GMLAN and Ethernet
Knowledge of GM electrical architectures (e.g. VIP, SDV) and on-vehicle serial protocols
High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands on experience
Mechanical and controls aptitude
Excellent planner, complex problem solver and ability to manage multiple projects
Project leadership
Certification in quality assurance and / or test automation
