Job Description

Summary 

 The Associate in QIS will play a pivotal role in supporting Ares’ quantitative investment strategy and expanding the firm’s ability to deliver innovative, multi-asset solutions that strengthen institutional relationships and drive growth. This position integrates quantitative research, portfolio management, and client engagement to translate analytical insights into actionable investment outcomes. 

The Associate will play a key role in designing custom portfolios, applying a disciplined and thoughtful approach to cashflow modelling, asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk management.

The Associate will work closely with the Ares Strategic Partnerships (ASP) team—which oversees client processes, structures, and negotiations—as well as with the Quantitative Research group (QRG) and Ares’ investment and relationship teams. 

Primary Responsibilities 

Investment Analytics and Research 

  • Assist in building and testing quantitative models for cashflow modelling, asset allocation, portfolio construction, and performance attribution. 

  • Maintain datasets, dashboards, and scenario models for monitoring portfolio exposures, risk, and performance. 

  • Partner with the ASP team, Relationship Managers, and Investor Relations to coordinate mandate design, structuring, and investor communications. 

  • Work with the QRG Research and Data Science teams to expand proprietary tools (e.g., Alpha Toolkit, Rollforward, Commitment Pacing, Factor Analysis) for both internal and client applications. 

Portfolio Support and Implementation 

  • Support discretionary mandates and reference portfolios, helping to translate model outputs into actionable portfolio recommendations.

  • Oversee portfolio design for discretionary mandates, reference portfolios, and custom client portfolios, incorporating fund investments, SMAs, co-investments and public markets. 

  • Enhance Drive portfolio risk management, simulation, and optimization capabilities to strengthen decision making and portfolio performance. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with Ares investment teams (Credit, Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Assets) to support development of integrated, multi-asset solutions such as Fusion and evergreen strategies. 

  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by documenting methodologies, automating analyses, and supporting thought leadership content. 

Qualifications 

  • At least 3 years of experience in alternative investments, quantitative research, investment banking. 

  • Foundational understanding of finance, portfolio theory, and capital markets. 

  • Demonstrated client-facing experience, ideally with institutional allocators or sovereign investors. 

  • Experience with statistical or programming tools (Python, R, SQL, MATLAB, or similar) and strong proficiency in Excel. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey quantitative insights to non-technical audiences. 

  • High motivation, intellectual curiosity, and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment. 

  • Demonstrated interest in private markets or multi-asset investing preferred.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$120,000 - $135,000 / annum
