Reporting to the Divisional Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, the Senior Associate General Counsel oversees the provision of legal services provided by internal and external counsel to the administration, staff and other employees of Beth Israel Lahey Health and its affiliates (“BILH”). The Senior Associate General Counsel will have specific responsibility for managing high level real estate and facilities legal work across the BILH enterprise. The Senior Associate General Counsel will represent all BILH entities in matters directly related to real estate, energy and facilities matters.

Job Description:

1. Directly provide legal services to the BILH enterprise and collaborate with internal and external resources for the provisions of legal services with respect to all real estate matters involving BILH, including clients, junior attorneys and paralegals.

2. Serve as a senior OGC expert and point-person for all real estate matters, including but not limited to regulations governing health care real estate, facilities and energy matters.

3. Provide senior leadership and expertise for lawyers and paralegals who provide real estate legal services to the BILH enterprise, including but not limited to ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services to clients, and ensuring cost effect delivery of outside counsel services for assigned areas.

4. Collaborate with BILH’s Real Estate Department to deliver advice, counsel, training and other support for BILH clients about BILH’s Real Estate program, as well as federal, state and local health care regulatory requirements.

Support the corporate real estate program and providing legal advice related to real estate matters affecting relevant affiliates and clients. 

5. Serve as a senior resource in the OGC for all real estate, facilities and energy matters, including the selection and management of outside counsel.

6. Provide legal support to all BILH clients in relation to relevant legal matters, regulatory and legal developments, contractual relationships, and other legal-related matters.

7. Negotiate and draft real estate, facilities and energy leases, contracts and agreements including services and supplier agreements within the area of specified legal expertise. 

8. Maintain current knowledge of relevant law and advise clients about the impact of recent regulatory and legislative changes and guidance.

9. Participate in committees and assist in the development of BILH policies and procedures that raise relevant legal issues.

10. Make presentations both inside and outside BILH and conduct teaching sessions for staff and other employees regarding relevant legal issues.

11. Work directly with outside counsel on issues requiring specialized legal consultation and serves as liaison with outside counsel on referred legal matters. 12. Responsible for working collaboratively with the BILH legal group to ensure consistent delivery of legal services across the system.

13. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with a lawyer with 10 or more years of experience in real estate law

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

J.D. degree from an accredited institution and proven ability to manage staff and matters with minimum oversight. 

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

Admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Member in good standing.

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Proven ability to manage staff and legal matters with minimum oversight.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Law firm experience (management experience)

 

 

Pay Range:

$208,000.00 USD - $260,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
