About the Position
The Senior Associate Director of Alumni and Family Engagement develops and executes engagement opportunities for Haverford alumni and families that align with the College’s fundraising and engagement goals. This strategic role oversees major on-campus events and broad-based communications, managing programs such as Move-In Day, Family and Friends Weekend, and Alumni Weekend, as well as select affinity-group initiatives. In addition, the Senior Associate Director leads family communications and oversees key communication triage processes. Through this work, they strengthen relationships that deepen engagement and enhance philanthropic support for Haverford.

This position plays a key role as part of the Alumni and Constituent Engagement (ACE) department on the Alumni and Family Engagement (AFE) team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement and the ACE team to design and deliver an innovative portfolio of in-person and virtual programs that deepen engagement and expand inclusive involvement across the alumni and family community
  • Lead the planning and execution of signature on-campus events including Move-In Day(s), Family and Friends Weekend, and Alumni Weekend, overseeing all strategic and operational aspects, including budget development, program design, logistics coordination, volunteer engagement, and content creation
  • Develop and implement family communication strategies that enhance connection and transparency ensuring consistent messaging across engagement programs
  • Support critical communication triage processes in collaboration with the Advancement Communications team
  • Serve as a partner to the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement in developing and executing engagement strategies that build momentum and visibility leading into the public launch of the Haverford 2030 Campaign
  • Partner with colleagues across Institutional Advancement, Student Life, Facilities, and other campus offices to ensure seamless, high-quality event and program delivery
  • Provide guidance and support to select alumni affinity groups and volunteer leaders to strengthen alumni, student, and family networks
  • Partner with Annual Giving and Advancement colleagues to integrate fundraising and campaign goals into engagement programming
  • Contribute to the evolving priorities of Institutional Advancement and assume other responsibilities as organizational needs and institutional goals develop

Line of Report: The Senior Associate Director of Alumni and Family Engagement reports to the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement and has no direct reports. This individual may oversee student workers and volunteers seasonally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Five (5) years of work experience in event design and management, program development, or volunteer engagement with working knowledge of fundraising and constituent engagement

Professional Competencies

  • Proven experience conceptualizing and leading large-scale, multi-faceted events with multiple stakeholders, leveraging strong attention to detail, creativity, and excellence in long-term planning, logistics, budgeting, and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and evaluate return-on-investment to inform data-driven decisions that enhance growth, innovation, and scalable engagement initiatives aligned with institutional goals. 
  • Confident, inclusive leader with experience managing staff or volunteers to achieve shared objectives
  • Demonstrated success working both independently and collaboratively across teams and departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in proofreading, editing, and developing clear, compelling content for diverse audiences
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism and positivity in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity, diplomacy, and sound judgment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
  • Experience with CRM and engagement tools such as Raiser’s Edge, AlumnIQ, Mailchimp or EMMA, Haverford Connect, and social media platforms. Comfort with maintaining departmental systems, calendars, and web content

  • Familiarity with a liberal arts setting
