Who We Are Looking For
State Street Investment Management is looking for a Senior Application Development Manager – Business Automation Platform for our China office, as part of the COO Business and Technology Architecture Services organization.
This is a senior technology leadership role focused on building and scaling an enterprise-grade business automation platform that enables end‑to‑end automation of manual and operational processes across Asset Management functions.
The ideal candidate combines strong architecture and execution capability, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and a product‑oriented mindset, with deep experience in automation, workflow, RPA, and AI‑enabled solutions. This role requires close collaboration with senior managers and business leaders across multiple lines of business to prioritize initiatives and deliver measurable outcomes.
Why This Role Is Important to Us
Operational excellence and automation are critical enablers of SSIM’s growth, risk reduction, and scalability. We are investing in a platform‑centric, AI‑enabled automation strategy to replace fragmented manual processes and legacy macros with governed, reusable, and scalable capabilities.
This role is central to:
- Driving business automation strategy into real, production‑ready platforms
- Enabling cross‑regional and cross‑functional automation at scale
- Embedding AI and intelligent workflows with appropriate risk controls
- Delivering tangible efficiency, quality, and risk‑reduction benefits
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of an enterprise Business Automation Platform, enabling workflow, RPA, and AI‑enabled automation.
- Drive end‑to‑end implementation of automation capabilities from concept to production, ensuring scalability, governance, and risk controls.
- Apply AI and intelligent automation pragmatically, including agent‑based approaches and human‑in‑the‑loop where appropriate.
- Partner with business and operations leaders to identify, prioritize, and deliver high‑value automation initiatives across multiple lines of business.
- Act as a trusted technology partner to senior managers, clearly communicating priorities, trade‑offs, and delivery plans.
- Apply a product mindset to platform design, focusing on usability, adoption, and long‑term value.
- Build and lead a high‑performing engineering team and establish engineering and delivery best practices.
What We Value
- Strong experience in enterprise application architecture and platform‑based solution design.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex platforms into production, not just define architecture.
- Proven capability in automation technologies, including workflow engines, RPA, and integration platforms.
- Solid understanding of AI and AI‑assisted automation, with a pragmatic approach to risk and governance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially when working with senior stakeholders.
- Product‑oriented mindset with the ability to design intuitive, scalable, and valuable platforms.
- Experience within Asset Management or Financial Services, with understanding of data, products, and operational processes.
Education & Preferred Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 12+ years (Master’s) or 15+ years (Bachelor’s) of experience in Information Technology, preferably within Asset Management or Financial Services.
- Strong experience in:
- Workflow automation and orchestration platforms
- RPA and process automation
- Enterprise integration and APIs
- AI / ML applications in business automation scenarios
- Hands‑on experience with modern application architectures (microservices, cloud‑native, scalable platforms).
- Experience coordinating delivery across multiple business lines and regions.
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure, complex environment with competing priorities.
