Core Responsibilities
Observability Strategy & Architecture (Senior Ownership)
- Lead end‑to‑end observability architecture using AppDynamics (APM, EUM, DB Monitoring, Analytics) and Splunk (Enterprise, ITSI, APM, Observability Cloud)
- Define enterprise observability strategies aligned to business objectives and reliability goals
- Establish standards for metrics, logs, traces, events, and service health modeling
- Design scalable architectures across cloud, Kubernetes, microservices, and legacy platforms
AppDynamics Expertise
- Implement and optimize:
- Application Performance Monitoring (APM)
- End‑User Monitoring (Real User & Synthetic)
- Business Transaction monitoring and baselining
- Database visibility and analytics
- Tune BT detection, health rules, policies, and alerts to reduce noise and improve signal
- Map application performance to business KPIs and outcomes
- Lead AppDynamics platform upgrades, expansions, and integrations
Splunk Expertise
- Design and implement Splunk solutions including:
- Log ingestion, normalization, and enrichment
- Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI) service modeling and KPIs
- Correlation searches, notable events, and glass tables
- Enable proactive operations through advanced alerting and predictive analytics
- Integrate Splunk with AppDynamics for full‑stack visibility and RCA
- Optimize index strategy, data retention, and licensing usage
Consulting & Technical Leadership
- Lead observability assessments, architecture reviews, and roadmap development
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to application, SRE, platform, and operations teams
- Facilitate executive‑level and technical workshops
- Provide mentorship to consultants and engineers on observability best practices
- Influence platform governance, tooling strategy, and operating models
Reliability, Incident Response & Operations
- Support major incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis using AppD & Splunk
- Improve MTTR through better correlation, context, and service visibility
- Drive adoption of SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets
- Enable operational excellence through actionable dashboards and runbooks
Automation & Integrations
- Automate instrumentation and deployments via:
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
- CI/CD pipelines
- Implement and support OpenTelemetry where applicable
- Integrate observability platforms with ITSM, CMDB, cloud, and DevOps tooling
- Develop custom dashboards, queries, and scripts as needed
