We are searching for a Senior Investment Analyst who will be responsible for research and analytical duties surrounding the Endowment and Retirement Trust. Outputs of analysis will include preparation of reporting materials such as asset allocation, evaluating performance of existing managers, preparation of cash balances and interaction with custodian. Howard University Investment Office is responsible for the management of the Endowment/Investment Pool and the Retirement Trust totaling an aggregated AUM over $1.6 billion in accordance with Board of Trustee approved investment policy and asset allocation.  The University has benefitted from tremendous leadership by the President and Senior Administration in attracting world-class students and faculty and positioning the University in the short and long-term.

The growth in Endowment supports these efforts and the Retirement Trust funding ratio is the highest in its recent history. Senior Investment analyst will be supportive of the Chief Investment and Deputy Chief Investment Officer primarily accountable for ongoing performance analysis, documentation, and reporting activities of the Investment Office related to the selection, monitoring and oversight of the Endowment's external investment managers. This role is heavily involved in the office's data collection and retention process. In addition to working closely with members of the investment team, this role will interact with other University departments and external entities including the Endowment's investment managers and administrators, custodian bank, and auditors. The Senior Investment Operations Analyst will be responsible for producing high quality work, including material that is readily presentable to constituencies inside and outside of the Investment Office.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The investment portfolio invests in diversified asset classes including domestic and international equities, domestic and global bonds, Inflation Hedging and Alternative strategies such as hedge funds, private equity and real assets. The Endowment and Retirement Funds uses external investment managers through commingled vehicles, separate accounts, trusts and limited partnerships.  Manager selection, diligence and asset class assumptions accomplished with assistance of consultants and other partners.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:                

Operational:

  • Oversee with the CIO and DCIO, the investment portfolio and related projects including cash reconciliation, return and risk calculations, documentation requests, workflow details with Treasury.
  • Take ownership of pacing analysis and capital call adherence

Investment operations for risk management and performance attribution:

  • Responsible for the selection, development and maintenance of the analytics system for research management and investment performance attribution and risk management. Work with the Information Services Department as a partner, when appropriate
  • Work to ensure that all documents and contracts secure the rights and property of the University.

Administration

  • Help create materials for Investment Committee meetings
  • Participate, in a general sense, as a team member of the Howard University Investment Office.

Investment research, manager due diligence and fund selection:

  • Evaluate current and recommend new investment managers
  • Perform statistical analysis and general research related to the capital markets for purposes of defining options for continuous investment improvements and recommendations for tactical strategies within asset classes to enhance performance of the overall portfolio;
  • Analyze investment performance and investment related issues and prepare material for the CIO and presentations (verbal and written) to the Investment Committee.
  • Review all footnotes of all presentation materials of external manager investments
  • Review appropriateness of investment fees and costs and recommend reductions

Projects:

  • Perform periodic studies, such as benchmarking on different investment issues, and manage projects as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a minimum of 5 years of Endowment, Foundation or Family Office manager research experience; skills in both written and oral communication; knowledge of investment concepts in a broad range of asset classes; and proficiency with various Microsoft products, including advanced Excel expertise, PowerPoint and Word. The ideal candidate would possess deep knowledge of equity and fixed income strategies. Advanced degrees of CFA designation, MBA in Finance and/or prior training in an investment bank would be preferred.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Compensation Range: $150,000 - $175,000
