Job Description:

We are seeking an analytical and highly motivated Senior Analyst to join our Fund Research team. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of investment strategies, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly.

This Senior Analyst position is a vital part of the Fund Research team, providing essential support to both Advisors and Senior Management. The role operates within the centralized Product Shelf department supporting Sun Life’s affiliated dealers: SLFISI (Sun Life Financial Investment Services Canada Inc.) and SLCSI (Sun Life Canada Securities Inc.). 

The successful candidate will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including Investment Advisors, Portfolio Managers, National Accounts Representatives, Legal, Operations, and Compliance teams, and colleagues across Sun Life Financial. This collaborative environment requires strong relationship-building and communication skills to ensure effective information sharing and alignment across business units.

What will you do?

  • Be a key member of the Mutual Fund Research team that supports Advisors and Management

  • This role entails interacting with individuals from various business units at Sun Life as well as third party mutual fund manufacturers. The candidate must be able to foster great working relationships with all

  • Conduct comprehensive research on the Canadian mutual fund universe and individual mutual funds in particular

  • Create & write advisor-facing research reports, articles, updates and presentations

  • Contribute to the strategic management of SLFISI’s Product Shelf

  • The individual must be able to execute thoughtful research, make recommendations, and support them in the field

  • Must be capable of interviewing portfolio managers effectively, leading due diligence meetings, and representing SLF

  • The individual will be critical to future enhancement of current programs and the creation of new ones under Fund Research

What do you need to succeed?

  • At least 5 years of previous experience undertaking Mutual Fund Research

  • At least 3 years of previous experience with asset allocation and portfolio building, as well as previous distribution or dealer experience

  • Deep understanding of various investment styles, asset classes, portfolio construction principles, and risk management techniques

  • Strong mutual fund and ETF industry knowledge (OM, alternatives, SMA are nice to haves)

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian mutual fund and securities regulatory environment is essential

  • Intellectual curiosity is a must

  • Strong problem solving, quantitative, and data analytics skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and project management skills

  • Great knowledge of Microsoft Office (expert level Excel)

  • Experience with industry specific tools such as Morningstar Direct and Bloomberg

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Results orientated and highly self-motivated

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to drive change and innovation

  • Ability to design and deliver presentations and training

  • Able to work in a team setting and autonomously

Education and Experience: 

  • University Degree

  • Evidence of passion for Investments (e.g. working towards CFA, or CIM)

  • Proficient in Morningstar Direct & Excel

  • Working knowledge of other industry tools (Bloomberg, StyleADVISOR, etc.)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
