POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The BDC Academy Learning specialist is mainly responsible for creating innovative online learning content and sometimes supporting in-person or virtual learning programs for Canadian entrepreneurs. The Learning specialist will first and foremost be tasked with putting in place and managing learning programs to achieve objectives established. Working in partnership with multiple experts and stakeholders (from Advisory Services, Financing, Marketing, etc.), the incumbent be responsible for designing, producing, overseeing learning projects (eLearning, virtual or in-person) and supporting them once operational.

 

The incumbent should be an experienced Learning professional with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and the entrepreneurial world. The incumbent will help determine the objectives for the Academy’s learning solutions and oversee solution design and the development of the required materials, conduct quality control checks, plan the rollout and measure the results.  He or she must be a creative individual who knows how to take advantage of the various learning technologies and approaches to create engaging and efficient learnings.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, determine the various entrepreneurs’ learning needs, strategies, and ensure a timely development and implementation of the relative learning programs.

  • In partnership with the BDC Academy team and other BDC stakeholders, participate in establishing the overall learning strategy for Canadian entrepreneurs (relative to various initiatives).

  • Identify key learning objectives and define instructional strategies to reach those desired objectives.

  • Map curriculum for upcoming programs

  • Identify the best type of learning approaches and technologies for the solutions.

  • Understand how Canadian entrepreneurs learn and always improve our strategies to increase impact.

  • Interact with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to design learning solutions. This involves analyzing content, choosing the best pedagogical approaches and tools while considering andragogical principles (including the specificities of how entrepreneurs learn) and engagement.

  • Form strong partnerships with the various internal stakeholders, BDC Academy, and key partners to ensure the right stakeholders are involved at the right time in the creation of learning solutions.

  • Work independently or with educational providers to draft a project plan and determine project objectives. Plan and coordinate deployment down to the smallest detail. Ensure sound time and budget management and monitor deployment until completion.

  • Produce or oversee the production of learning activities using multiple modes (eLearning, in-person, virtual, video, multimedia content, etc.).

  • When needed, work with and manage external vendors on projects and briefings with external firms; act as the interface between providers and various BDC stakeholders to ensure a smooth delivery, quality control and respect of BDC standards.

  • Analyze the effectiveness of a learning solution based on various measurement strategies and performance metrics. Adjust solution, as needed.

  • Help BDC Academy evolve to meet the learning needs of tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.

  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence across various tools to improve design processes and efficiency. In BDC Academy evolution by participating in/managing various projects.

  • Keep abreast of current trends and best practices in eLearning, a learning theory, design methodology, tools, approaches, and technologies to make insightful recommendations. 

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, adult learning, educational technology or other connected disciplines

  • 7 to 15 years of relevant business and/or educational experience

  • Experience with entrepreneurs and or/banking industry a plus

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Experience as a Learning specialist both for eLearning, virtual and in-person programs

  • Experience in managing multiple projects with milestones and deadlines

  • Familiar with abstract projects

  • Experience with various types of Learning (eLearning, videos, gamification, scenario-based learning, problem-based learning, podcasts, webinars etc.)

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to bring a project to fruition

  • Strong teamwork ethic and innovative thinking.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Excellent organizational skills and proactivity

  • Proven presentation and negotiation skills

  • Experience with developing eLearning using Articulate 360 suite (Rise and Storyline)

  • Experience with front end coding preferred (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

  • Experience with video editing software (Camtasia)

  • Experience with video editing hardware (an asset)

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Premiere, Photoshop, aftereffects)

  • Experience creating graphic design assets (an asset)

  • Experience using Gen AI in a professional setting

  • Knowledge of leveraging AI in design tools

  • Experience creating AI agents and Agent workflows (an asset)

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as D2L’s Brightspace

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (bilingualism preferred)
