We’re hiring a Senior Advisor, Indigenous & Community Relations (Regulatory & Operations) to lead formal regulatory consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. In this role, you’ll develop and execute consultation strategies for operations and major projects and ensure regulatory compliance and accurate consultation records. Partnering closely with Indigenous communities, regulators, and internal stakeholders, you’ll play a critical role in sustaining Suncor’s social license to operate.

Minimum Requirements

• 15 years of progressive experience in Indigenous relations, regulatory consultation, or community engagement
• University degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Business, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder consultation files, including Level 3 Aboriginal Consultation Office processes
• Proven track record working directly with Indigenous communities, leadership, and government regulators
• Experience in northern, remote, or operational environments, with strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and consultation record systems considered an asset

Responsibilities

• Extensive expertise in Alberta Indigenous consultation policies, ACO processes (including Extensive Level 3 consultation processes), and multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks
• Proven ability to lead complex regulatory consultation strategies for operations and major projects
• Strong relationship-building and engagement skills with Indigenous communities, regulators, and internal stakeholders
• Strategic thinker with sound judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive, high-profile, and ambiguous environments
• Advanced project management capabilities, including scope, budget, schedule, and risk oversight
• High proficiency in preparing regulatory submissions, consultation records, and technical documentation
• Skilled in facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, and cross-functional collaboration
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring staff and participating in emergency response rotations

Location & Key Details

• This is an office-based role which can be located out of either our Suncor’s Calgary head office (Suncor Energy Centre, 150 – 6th Ave S.W.) or Our Fort McMurray Stoney Creek location (Suite 210, 108 Riverstone Ridge)
• Standard work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Occasional site and community travel as required. 
• Compensation for business professional roles follows internal guidelines and is determined based on years of experience, scope of responsibility, and role impact
