Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will support the accounting and financial reporting functions related to the company’s rapidly expanding development and construction operations. This role is highly collaborative and will partner closely with Construction, Development, FP&A, and Operations teams to ensure accurate project cost tracking, capitalization, and reporting.
This is a hands-on position for a technically strong accountant with construction or project-based accounting experience who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing job cost accounting, capital expenditure tracking, and ensuring GAAP compliance for construction-in-progress (CIP) and fixed assets across multiple states.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounting for construction and development projects, including job cost tracking and reporting
- Maintain accurate job, item, & assist in inventory records
- Maintain and reconcile Construction-in-Progress (CIP) schedules and ensure timely capitalization of completed projects
- Review construction invoices, pay applications, change orders, and retainage
- Partner with Construction and Development teams to monitor budgets, commitments, and project spend
- Support month-end close process related to construction activity, including accruals and variance analysis
- Ensure proper accounting treatment for capital expenditures in accordance with GAAP
- Track and reconcile fixed asset additions, disposals, and transfers
- Assist with multi-state sales/use tax considerations related to construction and equipment purchases
- Support annual audit by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries related to construction
- Implement and enhance internal controls over construction accounting and capital expenditures
- Assist with cash flow forecasting related to development projects
- Contribute to process improvements to support scalability as the company grows
- Assist Finance & Capital Markets team with ad hoc requests into the construction financial activities
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (Master’s preferred)
- CPA license preferred (or CPA candidate)
- 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in construction, real estate development, or project-based accounting preferred
- Understanding of GAAP related to fixed assets and capitalization
- Experience in multi-entity and multi-state environments preferred
- Experience in private equity-backed and/or high-growth organizations preferred
- Public accounting background (audit) is a plus
Systems & Technical Skills
- ERP experience required; Viewpoint Spectrum experience is a plus
- Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Experience with job cost systems or project accounting modules preferred
