Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will serve as a technical lead within the Accounting and Finance organization, responsible for the enterprise-wide financial integrity and consolidation of a multi-entity renewable energy business. This role goes beyond traditional reporting by improving and optimizing our accounting and reporting systems, leading technical GAAP research for corporate-level transactions and debt structures, and supporting strategic financial narratives to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.

This position may be filled out of our Oakland, CA office. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and are free to work from the office or home on other days.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all activities necessary to issue timely and accurate financial statements by the 5th Business day of the following month.
  • Maintain the general ledger system and the associated account reconciliations.
  • Manage complex intercompany transactions, including transfers, eliminations and the production of consolidated financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the audited financial statements at year end along with unaudited quarterly financial reports.
  • Coordinate and assist with external auditors for the year-end financial statement audit.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Perform technical accounting research as applicable to areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare accounting reports & analysis for monthly finance report.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual compliance reporting for the Board, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with and influence stakeholders across the company where required to improve the quality and timeliness of the financial data resulting from business processes.
  • Support the Director and VP in delivering financial analysis that is timely, meaningful, and drives business improvements.
  • Improve the analytical capabilities of the accounting function, both in data/report availability and added insights, and be responsible for providing narratives on financial results;
  • Serve as an integral part of the budgeting process including creation, reforecasting, and variance analysis to drive business improvements and OPEX efficiency.
  • Optimize the use of our systems and technology to enable speed, control and efficiency in delivering outcomes.
  • Mentor accounting staff, including by coaching, counseling, and supporting the development of junior team member skillsets
  • Take a leadership role in the Finance and Accounting team's efforts to increase resilience by documenting team members' tasks, ensuring continuity of operations during absences (e.g., sickness, vacation).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Good knowledge of GAAP and other accounting practices and pronouncements relevant to the development of solar and/or energy storage projects or similar assets;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills to manage numerous and sometimes competing responsibilities of varying urgency and criticality within a fast-paced work environment;
  • Hardworking, responsive and adaptable to what the situation dictates, including possessing the strong interpersonal skills needed to work effectively in a team;
  • An unwavering commitment to excellence, and the creativity, foresight, and desire to spur and implement continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-ledger, intercompany accounting practices
  • Bachelor of Accounting (or similar), licensed CPA preferred.
  • Advanced reporting and data analysis skills, including advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Minimum 7 years accounting experience, 3 years at a senior level.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership.  We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.

Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position is $113,480 - 132,200. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 10% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. Our office locations in Lowell, Boston, Oakland, and Chicago all carry geography-based upward adjustments to the base pay range.
