About the Role

Hungryroot is looking for a motivated Senior Accountant to join our rapidly evolving Accounting function. As part of our continued growth and success, this person will report to our Senior Accounting Manager to support accounting close activities, support weekly inventory reporting, support weekly fulfillment cost reporting and drive growth and improvement objectives.

This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting operational decision-making, and improving how we track, value, and reconcile inventory across the business. You will partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, FP&A, and Warehouse teams to strengthen processes and drive meaningful insights.

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly close activities related to inventory, including reconciliation of GL to subledgers across all locations, goods in transit and COGS analysis tied to product cost, spoilage and inventory adjustments
  • Perform monthly close activities related to fulfillment, including reconciliation of GL to subledgers across all locations and vendors
  • Track weekly actuals for COGS and fulfilment costs, and work with FP&A team to compare actuals versus budget
  • Maintain average costs of inventory for all SKUs, including the actual purchase price of all purchased SKUs and landed costs for all SKUs
  • Own accounting for all landed costs (freight, duties, taxes) including allocating through standards and analyzing/allocating actuals
  • Perform quarterly analysis of actual purchase price plus landed costs for all SKUs, and provide explanations for significant variances, as well as propose updates to pricing, if applicable
  • Work with category leads on developing total landed cost of all new purchased SKUs
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to validate inventory purchases, variance drivers, and material usage
  • Partner with Fulfillment and Outbound Shipping teams to understand all costs and vendors associated with respective costs
  • Provide actionable insights on inventory levels, turns, slow-moving SKUs, and operational efficiency
  • Support cycle counts of inventory; identify root causes of discrepancies and recommend process improvements.
  • Strengthen internal controls related to inventory accuracy, cost tracking, and reporting
  • Analyze inventory aging reports and review potentially excess and obsolete inventory, including overseeing the financial control over disposal and write-off of inventory
  • Participate in forecasting and budgeting for inventory, COGS and fulfillment costs as needed.
  • Assist with audit requests, such as preparing supporting documentation and schedules
  • Maintain process documentation and look for opportunities to automate and improve daily accounting processes
  • Build and present ad-hoc reports to support monthly analyses as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field required
  • 3-5 years experience in a related finance and/or accounting role
  • 1+ years of Inventory accounting experience
  • Strong accounting knowledge including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with Netsuite or other enterprise accounting ERP systems
  • Ability to work both independently and with a collaborative team
  • Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines
  • Advanced-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Nice-to-have Skills

  • E-commerce, CPG, DTC industry experience 
  • Public company experience (audit and/or industry roles)
  • CPA, preferably including public accounting experience

Expected Pay Range
$75,000 - $100,000
