What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $68,773 - $91,124. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work three (3) days in office. For your in-office days, you can expect to work on-site at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building (201 W. Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80202).

The DOTI Revenue and Accounting Division’s mission is to provide timely, accurate, and insightful financial information to DOTI’s various stakeholders while ensuring compliance with relevant accounting principles, policies, and procedures.  The DOTI Revenue and Accounting Division accounts for and reports on all DOTI's financial activity and manages year-end external audits. Key areas of focus include: capital assets, capital projects, revenue, grants, accounts receivable, purchasing, accounts payable, debt, internal and external financial reporting, internal and external audit, cost accounting, internal control, process documentation & improvement, and data modeling & analysis. DOTI Revenue and Accounting Division is a dynamic environment that seeks innovative professionals to promote effective, efficient, and accountable government while maintaining the highest level of integrity.

Specifically, as the Senior Accountant, you will:

  • Register, transfer, and dispose of assets in the system of record, and assist with the annual physical inventory.

  • Monitor and track capital expenditures.

  • Reconciles complex discrepancies with regard to journal and accounting transactions, reviews, research, and analyzes reporting errors, creates reports and compiles supporting documents for corrections within accounting systems, and guides management through corrective actions.

  • Prepare complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and financial statements, research and compile data, and assist with creating quarterly and annual reports.

  • Conduct special projects about financial transactions, research and analyze accounting issues, perform financial calculations, and create reports and compile supporting documents for management review.

  • Ensure compliance and maintains fiscal accountability about rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the City, respond to inquiries, provide increasingly more complex information and assistance about accounting information and transactions, and work with client groups to resolve issues.

  • Perform routine and basic reconciliations of point-of-sale system identifying discrepancies and make corrections in the City’s financial system.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Governmental/nonprofit/grant/audit/public accounting experience.

  • Proficient in accounting and reporting software and tools, including but not limited to Workday, AssetWorks, Masterworks, and/or Microsoft Suite.

  • Motivated self-starter with an exploratory mindset.

  • Analytical with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing deadlines.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
