Job Description

The Senior Accountant will be part of Brookfield Property Partners (BPY) Corporate team and will report into the Manager, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Senior Accountant role provides a solid foundation and exposure to a progressive and dynamic career with a leading global asset management firm. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records of the BPY Corporate team and work with various internal stakeholders and teams to identify and implement key improvement opportunities. There is also an opportunity to provide leadership and mentorship to a team of corporate accountants and interns.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and review of the corporate quarterly reporting pack submitted to the consolidation team, which includes BPY Corporate’s financial statements and support for note disclosures.

  • Oversee the inventory of derivative hedge contracts across various legal entities, including analyzing the impact to the financial statements, liaising with capital markets team, preparing the quarterly journal entries, and analyzing against comparative periods to identify variances and anomalies.

  • Preparation and review of non-audited legal entity financial statements submitted on a quarterly basis.

  • Preparation and review of supporting note schedules to support the BPY public audited financial statements and MD&A.

  • Preparation and review of the quarterly forecast for activity related to derivatives.

  • Collaborate regularly with other finance teams and other departments (tax, legal, treasury) globally on transactions.

  • Preparation and review of monthly close processes including corporate accounting entries, period-end accruals and reconciliations.

  • Support internal and external reporting audits and assist with ad-hoc requests as required.

  • Support monthly financial close cycles and identify opportunities to implement practical changes to drive improvements and efficiencies.

  • Production of key metrics and data analysis to support closing of transactions and deals.

  • Assist in the preparation of various analyses and reports for senior management to support their business decision making.

  • Assist with other accounting related projects and functions as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • CPA designation

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years accounting experience in an accounting or financial analyst function.

  • Experience with MS Dynamics and OneStream desired, but not required.

  • Strong financial experience, including advanced Excel skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinker who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Able to work with changing priorities, meet deadlines, prioritizes well and able to work under pressure and independently.

  • Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development.

  • Demonstrates flexibility and strong supportive teamwork as well as professional and positive can-do attitude.

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
