The Senior Access Service Specialist is responsible for 'on the floor' oversight of patient throughput and has the skill set encompassing multiple facets of Patient Access. The Senior Access Service Specialist has been cross trained in all locations of Access and is flexible to be assigned in any trained unit for the day and time needed for the operational needs. In addition, the Senior Specialist may also have oversight of daily workflow assignments and assessing vulnerability of work unable to be completed, escalating to supervisor as identified.

Knowledge encompasses the Access Service Representative I/II and Access Specialist.

The Senior Access Service Specialist position is responsible for understanding billing process and the impact Access has on clean claim submission. Responsibility for Epic Access Pre- and Post- Work queues to ensure timely resolution of encounters so as not to delay billing.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures patient throughput and Access’ responsibilities are achieved with the highest efficiency and accuracy.
  • First point of contact for Access Representatives I/II and Access Service Specialist for issues with system, patient concerns or staff concerns.
  • Ability to train job specific responsibilities post successful completion of The Academy. This includes all respective disciplines within the Emergency Department and providing constructive feedback to the new employee or colleague based on performance per the Training Manual.
  • Responsible for the accurate patient identification in a highly stressful situation; this responsibility is a Patient Safety measure.
  • Registration including collecting patient demographic information; insurance information and obtain signatures for regulatory forms via Document Management/electronic signature; the collection includes Medicare patients collecting the regulatory mandate of the MSPQ information
  • Responsible for identifying and verifying insurance at bedside; obtaining additional information if No Fault or Worker’s Compensation for MVA patients and employees hurt at work.
  • Ability to review, assess and assign the appropriate health insurance plan and collect copayment.
  • Ensure Epic Pre and Post Workques encounters are resolved timely so as not to delay billing.


Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree - required
  • Bachelor's Degree - preferred
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience, registration or clinic access position - required
  • Ability to keep composure in challenging situations.
  • Ability to train peers and new hires
  • Ability to provide operational guidance to ensure patient volume is managed successfully
  • Ability to multi-task in stressful and high patient volume unit; must be able to manage pressure of high intensity situations
  • Demonstrated ability to train the adult learner – on the job – post successful completion of The Academy.
  • Ability to react to changing patient volume and adjust operational staffing as needed.
  • Ability to assess adult learner progress following the formal Training Manual; providing constructive feedback
  • Good judgement and ability to be resourceful to problem solve; escalate issues as needed
  • Ability to handle a multi-line telephone system; paging required
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. (Sneakers are permitted)
  • CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate obtained within 2 years of hire - required
  • Completion of Learning Partner module - required
