About the Opportunity

The Group Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the whole Sellafield Account ensuring delivery excellence, customer satisfaction, and sustainable business growth. This role oversees all operational performance, governance, people development, and senior client engagement to ensure Amentum’s strategic objectives are met. The role will work across multiple contracts, focusing on portfolio-wide improvements, efficiency gains and value creation.

You'll be accountable for driving efficiency, embedding a culture of innovation and inclusion, and ensuring that all the projects and frameworks within the portfolio have the systems, processes, and leadership needed to deliver consistent high performance. The Group Director will contribute to strategic decision-making, collaborate cross-functionally, and play a key role in shaping the organisation’s growth, mission, and culture.

This role will help the organization realize its ambition to become a trusted partner and advisor, co-creating solutions with our key client that align with both our mutual and shared strategic objectives. The role ensures that we operate as an integrated and innovative delivery partner, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and maximizing value for the client and the organisation alike.

Scope & Impact

  • Business-wide accountability for all Amentum activity at Sellafield.

  • Executive-level influence with Sellafield Ltd, NDA, regulators, and Amentum leadership.

  • Ownership of long-term account value, risk profile, and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Portfolio Leadership: Oversee a portfolio of projects and frameworks, identifying and implementing opportunities to deliver more efficiently and create additional billable value, targeting an increase in portfolio gross margin by 3% (5% stretch target).

  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain deep, trust-based relationships with senior Sellafield Executives, aligning our services with client strategic objectives and ensuring a no-surprises, open-communication culture.

  • Co-Created Value Propositions: Develop value propositions based on solutions co-created with our key client, ensuring alignment with both mutual and shared strategic objectives to drive additional value for both parties.

  • Portfolio Optimization: Implement portfolio-wide initiatives, such as master resource scheduling, digital delivery, supply chain engagement, and staff development, to drive operational efficiencies and innovation.

  • Best Practice & Consistency: Establish and implement best practices across the portfolio, aligning with strategic goals in areas like environmental sustainability, social impact, and digital innovation.

  • Threat and Opportunity Management: Lead a structured process to review portfolio-wide risks and opportunities, ensuring alignment from top-down and bottom-up communications with individual framework teams.

  • Performance Reporting: Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership, updating on improvement actions, benefits realisation, and a balanced scorecard of meaningful metrics.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, align, and performance-manage Portfolio Directors, Programme Directors, and Contract Leads as a cohesive senior leadership team, ensuring clarity of accountability, collaboration across Divisions, and succession depth.

  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure transparent, ethical operations and adherence to corporate governance, risk, and compliance standards.

  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Promote the highest standards of safety, wellbeing, and ethical responsibility across all operations. Set clear expectations for nuclear safety culture, security, and regulatory engagement at enterprise level, reinforcing Amentum standards across all contributing teams and partners.

  • Partnerships: Own and govern Joint Venture and strategic partnership arrangements associated with the Sellafield account, including chairing or appointing Chairs, SROs, and senior accountable roles where required.

  • Financial Management: Deliver strong performance across revenue, margin, cost management, and cash flow to achieve year-on-year growth.

Here's What You'll Need 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Business, Management, Finance, or related field; advanced degree (e.g. MBA) preferred.

  • Significant senior leadership experience within complex, project-driven organisations.

  • Proven track record of growing revenue and profitability through strong customer delivery.

  • Experience managing large cross-functional teams and embedding governance frameworks.

  • Financial acumen and experience in strategic planning and delivery.

  • Demonstrated success in building enduring client and stakeholder relationships.
