About the Position

This position supports MCSO Headquarters by performing variety of duties to ensure the security and public safety of elected officials, employees, visitors, the public, and County properties.  In addition, this position performs security, screening, patrol services, emergency services, and operational functions to maintain the security and safety of assigned facilities, personnel, and the public. This position requires daily interaction with the public and County staff, offering both proactive engagement and responsive support. Strong interpersonal skills, situational awareness, and problem-solving abilities are essential to effectively manage evolving safety needs, de-escalate potential conflicts, and promote a secure environment.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Experience

  • Two (2) years of security-related experience within a criminal justice system, business or military police environment

OR

Combined education and experience qualifications

  • Other combinations of education or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year for year basis.

Other requirements

  • Valid Arizona driver’s license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS – IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Required to carry and use a firearm and qualify on a firing range to required standards and obtain/maintain a State of Arizona CCW permit. 
  • Alarm and CCTV systems, firearms, pepper spray, electronic screening stations, hand-held metal detection equipment, x-ray machines and two-way radio systems.
  • No criminal record, Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit, AED-CPR-First Aid certification and an Arizona Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Must be able to obtain clearance from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). 
  • This position requires a post-offer physical examination. 
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Inspects buildings and grounds including off-site locations to observe and secure facilities against any situations of potential loss to the County
  • Admits and releases authorized persons, remove unauthorized persons and provide access control for approved personnel
  • Performs screening of the general public, by visual observance using x-ray machines, walk-through and handheld metal detectors, preventing any weapons or contraband from entering the County buildings
  • Investigates and documents disturbances and incidents, which may involve the use of physical restraints to maintain order, safety and to protect property
  • Operates a security command center, which includes monitoring a CCTV system, Hirsch Access Control Systems digital alarm receivers to include fire, burglar and 911- computer system
  • Operates County vehicles to include bikes, golf carts and patrol cars
  • Cooperates with in-house staff and external law enforcement agencies while conducting investigations 
  • Testifies in court as required
  • Performs special assignments relating to executive protection of elected officials, workplace violence issues and protecting County owned equipment and property
  • Abides, follows and enforces County policies, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations
  • Enforces Countywide parking regulations by issuing tickets, booting vehicles, and controlling traffic as needed
  • Provides escorts as requested to County facilities and parking lots
  • Meets division firearms and annual training requirements
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor.
  • Conducts mail screening of all mail coming into MCSO Headquarters.
