Position Description:

 

The SOC Analyst is responsible for monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to security threats across the organization’s environment. This role is a critical part of the Security Operations function, ensuring timely identification, investigation, and resolution of potential security incidents. The analyst works closely with cross-functional teams, leverages security tools and processes to minimize risk, and contributes to maintaining the organization’s overall security posture through effective incident handling, documentation, and continuous improvement.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.  Security Monitoring & Alert Triage

    • Monitor security alerts generated from multiple security tools, including EDR, email security, and network security solutions

    • Analyze and triage alerts to identify potential security threats

    • Differentiate between false positives and confirmed security incidents

2.  Incident Detection & Response

    • Investigate security incidents and suspicious activities across endpoints, networks, and cloud environments

    • Perform initial containment and remediation actions as required, following established procedures

    • Communicate confirmed or high severity incidents to the SOC team for visibility, guidance, and coordinated handling of next steps.

3.  Log Analysis & Threat Investigation

    • Analyze logs from endpoints, servers, network devices, and cloud platforms

    • Correlate events across multiple data sources to identify attack patterns and indicators of compromise

    • Document investigation findings in a clear and structured manner

4.  Case Management & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records for all alerts and security incidents

    • Update case notes with investigation steps, findings, and remediation actions

    • Ensure all security incidents are properly tracked by creating or updating cases and documenting investigation steps, findings, and outcomes accordingly.

5.  Threat Intelligence & Security Awareness

    • Stay up to date on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques

    • Apply threat intelligence insights to enhance detection and response capabilities

    • Support proactive threat hunting activities where applicable

6.  Process & Continuous Improvement

    • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and incident response workflows

    • Identify opportunities to improve detection logic and reduce alert fatigue

    • Participate in security exercises, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives


Job Specifications:

    • Monitor and operate BW security systems to ensure effective protection across endpoints, networks, and email security layers

    • Monitor BW computer networks and IT assets for security issues

    • Install, operate, and maintain security software

    • Resolve, report, and document any security issues or breaches

    • Monitor and configure centralized log and alert management systems

 

Education and Experience required:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience within the information technology field, with at least 1 or more years spent triaging and remediating security events.

    • Not looking for someone who is an expert in a single system, but rather someone who has real-world work experience in multiple IT systems -- a skilled generalist.

    • Knows how to traverse IT systems to investigate, respond to and resolve security incidents generated by our IT systems, our internal users, and our external customers.

    • Understanding firewalls, proxies, malware, phishing, endpoint detection and threat response, and Information Protection and Detection Systems.

    • Ability to creatively research and resolve security issues in an efficient manner, often in an unsupervised environment.

    • Triage and respond to alerts generated by other security systems

    • Windows and/or Linux operating systems

    • Common attack techniques such as phishing, malware, and lateral movement

    • Reading, writing, and speaking fluency in the English language

    • Effective written and verbal communication skills for engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

 

PREFERRED

    • Strong understanding of:

      • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS)

      • Experience with security tools such as EDR, email protection, and cloud access security platforms

    • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex technical problems and propose actionable solutions.

    • A relevant certification such as Security+ or CEH


 

 

Supervisory/Responsibility:

This is a non-supervisory position.

 

Work Environment:

This is an office position.

 

Position Type:

This is a regular, full-time position with the understanding that a regular workweek will require extended days and hours as needed to meet business needs.
