In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our   Quality Assurance division is currently hiring for a Section Manager, Inspection Services.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

The Quality e division is committed to enabling the organization to get it right the first time to support safe operations and project excellence. As part of our Quality team, the Section Manager, Quality Inspections is accountable for managing a section that performs Inspection services and provides Inspection reports in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures, and agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and growth of a Nuclear Safety Culture by communicating the Nuclear Safety message, setting the example for nuclear safety and demonstrating this commitment through words and actions

  • Provides support to the Department Manager & Division Manager in managing the Department/Division in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures and agreements

  • Keeps the Department Manager informed of operational issues, changes and impact and make recommendations to effectively meet changing requirements.

  • Provides day-to-day coordination of the Section

  • Provides oversight for work group performance, milestones, metrics, production, deliverables, budget, training and development to ensure Section meets business plan requirements

  • Provides problem solving, corrective actions and troubleshooting expertise.

  • Ensures all Section activities, including that undertaken by contractors, are carried out with full regard to prescribed service levels, site license requirements, statutory regulations, Company and location directives, procedures and Safety Rules

  • Manages Section in the areas of staffing, operational deployments, performance management, labour relations and other related matters

  • Ensures that all personnel in the Section are appropriately trained for the tasks delegated to them and have appropriate qualifications and authorization. Sponsors and actively champions Human Performance program and tools to achieve zero events. Ensures full compliance with the Human Performance program and any associated initiatives

  • Assists in the development of Section performance measures. Monitor, analyze and assess performance effectiveness & recommend areas for improvement.

  • Participate in selection of new/replacement staff

  • Ensures all reporting requirements with respect to Incidents, Station Condition Records, Corrective Action Plans, Action Requests and Work Requests, are effectively completed and processed in a timely manner

  • Meets the site requirements for Observation and Coaching, Workplace Inspections and Safety

  • Uses field Observation and Coaching as well as other measures of performance monitoring, coach all operations staff as required to meet standards of work and standards of leadership.

  • Establishes a work environment that is safe, promotes quality work, continuous improvement and is respectful of each other

  • Perform other duties as required

Specific Functional Accountabilities:

  • Maintain Section documentation and procedures to ensure that correct and safe practices are followed, and plant reliability and availability are maintained at a high standard

  • Implements and maintains processes that ensure the quality of all work performed is at the highest level and meets all jurisdictional requirements

  • Participates in field task planning activities to ensure that staff is utilized efficiently, and that the priorities for the station are understood

  • Monitors/influences activities internal to Department to ensure technical responsibilities and Bruce Power priorities are met

  • Coordinates work activities with interfacing Bruce Power sections to ensure production and project milestones are met.

  • Oversees management of augmented staff contracts and provides work direction.

  • Supports regulatory commitments and program audits as required.

  • As directed by Department Manager, attends meetings or conference calls on behalf of the Section and be accountable for resulting actions

  • As directed by Department Manager, provides oversight for improvement initiatives including benchmarking and self-assessments. Supports the Department Manager in financial responsibilities including participation in budget preparation and monitoring meetings and cost control including budget and overtime

  • Accepts Acting Department Manager duties as required in the absence of Department Manager

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of business operations, organization, functions, operating policies and procedures, regulations, and license requirements.

  • Working knowledge of CSA N286 and other CSA standards as they apply to CANDU Nuclear plants.

  • Experience managing Non Destructive Examination and Quality Control programs.

  • Experience in performing inspections for major construction projects and operational scopes of work.

  • Experience in administering inspections under a defined Quality Assurance program.

  • Experience in supervising staff and addressing Labour Relations issues as part of a unionized workforce.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent organization, planning, time management and project management abilities. Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.

  • Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Education and Experience

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of Grade XII plus 2 years' further concentrated study in a technical discipline or in a related field or by having the equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related field.

  • A minimum of 8 years, and up to and including 10 years of relevant work experience in Non Destructive Testing and Quality Control methods or a related field.

  • Requires knowledge of material science, industrial metallurgy, electrical, instrumentation & control, chemistry, and industrial methodology, in order to supervise the performance of Quality Control / Quality Surveillance function.
