In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Design Engineering Division (DED) is currently hiring for a Section Manager. This role will focus on managing and delivering engineering lead projects from concept to execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of project managers and engineers responsible for delivering engineering projects and station engineering requests that support the top site priority of improving equipment reliability across all engineering disciplines.

  • Apply excellence and accountability model to oneself and with engineering team to deliver project excellence and strong team behaviors.

  • Foster a team culture of ownership and accountability to improve both team and individual continuous improvement.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Direct report to the Department Manager, Engineering Projects

  • Supports the development of and adherence to the Program Management Plan to manage and execute projects. Utilizes the tools provided to manage the program through key metrics such as Earned Value Management

  • Monitor, complete and communicate monthly section performance reviews such as but not limited to:

    • Schedule adherence

    • Project Spends vs Release

    • Earned Value Management System indicators

    • Engineering Change Turnover

    • Engineering Change Closeouts

    • Engineering Request completion

  • Lead engineering projects including supporting field execution of currently assigned capital projects such as but not limited to:

    • 49114 BA/BB PHT Pump Seals

    • 70281  BB U05678 Control Relays

    • 70280  BA U01234 Control Relays

    • 70040  Cyber Essential Asset Security Phase 4

    • 70097  Bruce A Hybrid Rod Based GSS (RBGSS)

    • 39984  Heat Exchanger/Pressure Vessel Fitness for Service Analysis/Registration

    • 39754  Detailed Engineering in Support of Implementing 36 Month Outage Cycle

    • 39124  Bruce B Pressure Vessel Inspection Program

    • DEDs Engineering Request Program

  • Develop qualified staff for roles of Project Engineering Lead (PrEL) and Project Manager (PM) to lead, manage and execute engineering projects

  • Supports the Project Managers and their teams in resolving challenges affecting the successful execution of work. Listens and responds appropriately to concerns, developing solutions that become process improvements

  • Interfaces regularly with the customer and stakeholders throughout the project/program lifecycle in order to ensure execution is in line with commitments and expectations

  • Works with senior/line management in developing appropriate changes in such areas related to the application of appropriate business improvement tools and techniques; resource management; quality control over processes, programs and frameworks to achieve a business improvement culture with a commercial focus.

  • Integration and Alignment with other Departments and Bruce Power Divisions

  • Anticipates problems and proactively consults with other managers in identifying issues that may hinder the success of a program/project.  Develop strategies and presents solutions to affected groups for concurrence

  • Builds strong cross-functional work relationships with other Bruce Power departments to continuously improve performance and to remove emergent challenges that may prevent the achievement of a key project milestone

Knowledge and Skills

  • Have a passion for excellence and have demonstrated a proven track record of delivering engineering projects successfully

  • Leadership skills of teams ranging in sizes up to 12 people.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills and abilities to prioritize issues based on evolving Operation and business needs.

  • Candidates must have the ability and flexibility to take on a variety of roles and functions and be comfortable with ambiguity in their role

  • Have consistently been a top performer, demonstrating a strong background in projects, and business, process or technical roles

  • Be able to think analytically and be comfortable dealing with complex issues that require a logical approach

  • Possess exceptional organizational and leadership abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with others by developing trust, mutual respect and cooperative working relationships.

Education and Experience

  • A 4-year university degree in Engineering

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience of business experience with 5 years of experience within a leadership capacity.

  • Professional Engineering designation is preferred, or the ability to obtain a P.Eng designation is required.
