Welcome Statement

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is proud to care for Oregon’s extraordinary landscapes and rich cultural history. The department serves its visitors and all Oregonians through its properties and programs, and recognizes that the state’s resilience and beauty are strengthened by its diverse population. Oregon State Parks are public spaces where all are welcome. We value and serve everyone, and we are committed to providing safe and equitable access to state parks and agency programs. The department will not tolerate racism, harassment, discrimination or intimidation in any form.

Your New Role

As a seasonal, full-time Park Ranger Assistant, you will assist year-round State Park staff in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems.

There is something special about being part of a park team. It is more than wearing a uniform. It is more than completing a task list. It is being part of the work that helps people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected to a place they may remember for the rest of their lives. At Harris Beach, the work matters because the details matter. Clean facilities, a well-kept campground, a helpful conversation, a calm presence, a job done well even when no one sees it, all of it shapes the experience people have in our parks.

The Seasonal Park Ranger Assistant position is a .33 FTE seasonal role from June through September and offers an opportunity to be part of something meaningful during the busiest time of the year. This position supports the day-to-day operation of the Harris Beach Management Unit and plays an important role in helping the park remain clean, safe, welcoming, and well cared for.

While this is an entry-level classification, we are looking for candidates with a wide range of skills, backgrounds, and experiences. Some may come with strong customer service experience. Others may bring skills in cleaning, cash handling, maintenance, landscaping, teamwork, or public contact. What matters most is a willingness to contribute, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and pride in being part of a team that cares deeply about the standard of the park and the experience of the people who visit it.

This role offers the opportunity to learn the day-to-day basics of campground and park operations while working both independently and alongside experienced rangers. Seasonal Park Ranger Assistants may take on solo assignments, assist with projects, support daily operations, help visitors, and contribute to the overall function and appearance of the park. It is hands-on work, people-centered work, and work that carries real value.

Why Apply for This Position

This is an opportunity to be part of something bigger than yourself.

Working at Harris Beach means contributing to a place that matters to the public, to the local community, and to the staff who take pride in caring for it. It means joining a team that values service, teamwork, professionalism, and the small details that often make the biggest difference. It means learning practical skills, building real experience, and doing work that is visible, meaningful, and important. This position offers more than seasonal employment. It offers a chance to grow, to contribute, and to be part of the work that helps protect and shape one of Oregon’s most treasured coastal parks.
