Position Description

At the Anoka County Transportation Division, our vision is to enhance and protect life by delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions.

We are currently seeking a Seasonal Highway Outreach Assistant, who supports the county’s transportation initiatives by helping connect residents, businesses, and community partners with key programs and services. This role assists with public outreach, event support, and sharing timely information on mobility options, safety campaigns, and project updates.

The assistant helps distribute materials, engage with the public, gather feedback, and support communication efforts such as social media content, newsletters, and promotional materials. The position also tracks outreach activities and maintains basic engagement data to support effective community engagement.

This is a seasonal, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place as applications are received for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. 

Pay & Benefits

  • Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 24: $20.19 to $26.25 per hour.

Work Location

  • This position will work at the Anoka County Highway Building, located at 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover MN 55304.

  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with outreach to residents, businesses, and community organizations to share transportation program information.

  • Distribute materials and promote department initiatives at events and in the community.

  • Support small meetings and events by preparing materials and providing on‑site assistance.

  • Engage with the public to answer basic questions and collect feedback on transportation projects.

  • Help create and schedule social media content; capture photos or videos at events.

  • Assist with developing newsletters, promotional materials, and public updates.

  • Track outreach activities, maintain engagement data, and support basic reporting needs.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a high school diploma.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with social media content creation.

  • Experience with design tools such as Canva.

  • Basic knowledge of public transportation, biking, and other commuting options.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.

  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.

  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing.

  • Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.

  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
