Job Summary: The typical seasonal period is April through June but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2026.

Major Duties:

  • The Pacific West Region is recruiting for TEMPORARY seasonal positions not to exceed 1039 hours work in a service year. Dates of employment will vary between sites depending on funding, weather conditions and visitation. Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding. Duty Location is: Yosemite National Park Major duties are processing grocery orders and purchases groceries for multiple crews weekly. Stocks the food commissary to complete grocery and sundry orders sent by crews for specific delivery dates and times. Transports food orders to staging areas. Communicates via park radio system, satellite phone and normal phone network with crews to get orders and needs to be received in weekly resupplies. Purchases groceries and supplies using government furnished credit card. Responsible for the stocking, handling, storage and transport of a full food supply operation for a range of 10-50 personnel during the months of April through October. Loads and unloads boxes of groceries with consideration given to safety, security and protection of all items involved. Labels all outgoing supplies with label identifier. Operates motor vehicles up to 26,000 GVWR in steep, wet, icy, slippery, dry, hot and cold conditions throughout parks and in the nearby cities. On occasion will operate pickup truck pulling an 8,000 Lb. GVW, or less, trailer to deliver material and or supplies to all areas of the parks. Other duties include sharpening and re-handling hand tools used in trail maintenance. Minor tool maintenance and preventive maintenance of equipment (i.e. oil change to portable generators). Filling and mixing fuels for equipment used by work crews. Fills and stores liquid propane for crews weekly supply orders. Deliver hay and grain products to staging locations. Pick-up parts and supplies for other work units when shopping for groceries for crews. May intermittently feed and perform welfare checks of park livestock during time the animal care takers are not available. Physical requirements: Incumbent works indoors/outdoors primarily during daylight hours. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures 100+ degrees). Indoor building temperatures range from 70-90 degrees. The work environment is dirty, dusty, and greasy, and soiling of clothes is inevitable. The work may involve sitting, bending, kneeling, twisting, awkward positions, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, and regular lifting of objects of up to 50 lbs. in weight. Working Conditions: Operates motor vehicles on a daily basis, in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and various terrains in the performance of duties, including on curving narrow mountainous roads and occasionally off-road terrain, and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Must possess a valid State driver's license. May be required to travel overnight and work weekend shifts. Incumbents are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Have the ability to do the work of a Materials Handler without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) This includes work such as process grocery orders and purchase groceries for multiple work crews. Determining locations to purchase groceries and supplies, preparing orders for delivery; safely loading and unloading groceries, supplies and equipment by hand, pellet jack, or powered forklifts. Performing maintenance and custodial duties. Mixing fuels, sharpening tools etc., and other similar duties. Transport supplies and material by pick-up truck or van.
