Job Summary: These seasonal positions may be filled for a six-month seasonal period, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of masonry trade work that requires intermediate level skills to maintain, repair, and/or construct a variety of surfaces/structures made of brick, block, and/or stone.

Major Duties:

• Major Duties: The incumbent may work independently or with the other crew members to maintain, repair. and preserve structures. This work may include: Removal of damaged portions of walls, selecting and dressing replacement stones, repointing mortar, and replicating original architectural styles. Prepare mortar with appropriate percentage of sand, soil, and chemical additives and apply preservative chemicals to stone and wood. Perform other types of activities involving the preservation of historic architecture, as necessary. Physical Effort: This position is required to perform masonry work from ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and other cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the incumbent to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in uncomfortable positions. If the incumbent is assigned to perform masonry work in remote locations, the incumbent may be required to walk, hike, climb, or drive over rough and uneven terrain. The incumbent is expected to lift and/or carry items up to 50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally up to 100 pounds in weight with assistance. Working Conditions: Most work is performed outside with exposure to all types of harsh weather conditions. Work outside may be subject to extreme weather conditions, with wind, rain, snow, and ice, in temperatures ranging from below 0 to over 100 degrees. Depending on the geography of the park unit assigned, work may take place at elevations ranging from sea level up to 10,000 feet or in or near bodies of water. The incumbent may be regularly exposed to dust, dirt, fogs, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and vapors, as well as noise, vibration, cuts, bruises, and abrasions from the use of masonry tools, vehicles, hoists, conveyer belts, cranes, and other equipment. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and burns, as well as microbiological organisms and potentially hazardous wildlife. The incumbent is subject to the danger of falling when on ladder or scaffolding, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading equipment and materials. Some contact may be necessary with chemical agents in the nature of cleaning fluids and preservation compounds, some of which are considered hazardous. Work with chemical agents will be conducted within approved manufacturer's specifications and in accordance with all applicable masonry requirements and standards. The incumbent is expected to comply with all safety and occupational health requirements and wear protective clothing, gloves, face shields, and in some cases a respirator that may be uncomfortable. Area Information: Established on January 29, 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is a living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. The park embraces 415 square miles of pristine, uninhabited mountains in north-central Colorado and, as such, is one of the most spectacular, yet easily accessible high mountain areas in North America. With elevations ranging from 7,800 feet at park headquarters to 14,259 feet at the summit of Longs Peak, the park has glacier-sculptured valleys, rugged gorges, alpine lakes, and vast areas of alpine tundra. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation. Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, coyotes, and smaller animals are found throughout the park, as well as threatened and endangered species, such as the Greenback Cutthroat Trout and Boreal Toad. Due to the park's easy accessibility to the Front Range communities of Colorado, Rocky experiences over 4 million visitors annually. This position will be filled on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The nearest community is Estes Park, CO, which has K-12 schools, a post office, restaurants, medical facilities, and grocery stores. Denver, CO which has a major airport, cultural events, and several professional sports teams is a two-hour drive away.

Must have ability to work with others to maintain, repair, and preserve masonry structures. Must have ability to do work involving the removal of damaged portions of architectural features; selecting and dressing replacement stones; mixing mortar that has appropriate color, strength, and composition; and replicating original architectural styles.
