Salary Range: $24.99 - $29.18 Per Hour

Job Summary: A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay. The typical seasonal period is May-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2026

Major Duties:

  • This is an open continuous announcement. Applicants will be referred throughout the announcement period. Works with and assists in the guidance, training, and safety of laborers, volunteers, and Acadia Youth Conservation Corps under the leadership of a Trail Work Leader, Trail Supervisor, or a WG-4749-08 Maintenance Worker. Employee is engaged in all aspects of trail maintenance, construction, and repair including drainage and tread maintenance, masonry dry stone construction, and carpentry work using heavy log and rough-sawn lumber, for repair of trail structures, and rehabilitation of all trails. Uses small equipment, loaders, atv, etc., and drives crew cabs, trucks, and passenger vans up to but not exceeding 10,000 GVW to transport crew and or materials to the job site. Plans, sets up, and operates typical overhead rigging systems used in trail work to transport material.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT): ability to work on a variety of trails and work independently to construct and maintain trail features such as drainage, tread, stone walls, and stone steps. Complete small trail projects from drawings or written guidelines. Cut and shape stones to and use drystone masonry techniques to construct trails to historic standards following cultural guidelines. Construct and maintain trail features including drainage, tread, stone or timber retaining walls, or stone steps. Experience with the use of common hand tools and some equipment used in trail construction and repair. Move materials using cable rigging systems in a backcountry setting. Work is consistently checked by supervisor to meet standards. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
