Salary Range: $29.34 - $39.74 Per Hour

Job Summary: NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039-hour season. This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season(s) reflected in this announcement. See the Additional Information section for details. Positions selected for the McCarthy, AK duty station will be duty stationed in Kennecott, AK.

Major Duties:

  • The typical season for this position is May - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is May 2026. Duties of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 include but are not limited to the following: Assist higher graded maintenance workers in the performance of work. Perform carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables, broken windows using precut stock; make minor adjustments, or replace hinges, latches, and catches. Perform minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects. Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures; replace faucet washers; unplug drains using a plunger; replace liquid petroleum gas bottles. Receive, upload, and process incoming shipments according to established procedures; report discrepancies and damage. Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collect trash. Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Make minor repairs as needed. Operate a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. Duties of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-07 include but are not limited to the following: Construct, install, repair, and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Apply premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers. Paint various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets. Perform plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines. Check, troubleshoot and analyze electrical circuitry using proper equipment to measure current, voltage and resistance. Install, repair and replace electrical systems components. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. Knowledge of technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic). Ability to use measuring instruments. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (including blueprint reading). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. Knowledge of materials.
