Position Summary

The Town of Milton’s Operations Department is currently accepting applications for the contract position of Seasonal Maintenance Operator – Roads.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads, the Seasonal Maintenance Operator supports daily activities of operational services within the division. The Seasonal Maintenance Operator will perform a variety of operational tasks to support roads while ensuring they are meeting service levels and following all safety standards.

Successful candidates must be able to work May 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026, including shift work and weekends as required.

  • Assists with a variety of summer road maintenance and repair activities of roads, sidewalks, curbs, bridges/culverts, signs and stormwater infrastructure

  • Performs debris and garbage pick up

  • Performs traffic control and road patrol

  • Performs hot/cold mix road maintenance activities

  • Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act 

  • Performs all other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives

  • Ensures all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized and worn as per requirements

  • Completes equipment work order forms as required

  • Responds to customer inquiries according to established procedures and approved decision-making framework

  • Maintains ongoing communication with internal staff and contractors to maintain a high level of efficiency and service

Education & Experience

  • Minimum successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent

  • Post-secondary education parks or maintenance or related field and/or combination of relevant post secondary education and related experience is an asset

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in municipal public works or parks and/or other relevant and/or equivalent experience

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in municipal road operations is an asset

Certifications and Designations

  • Class G License in good standing

  • DZ License with a satisfactory driving record is required for staff working with roads operations in the winter

  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate/CPR and WHMIS training is considered an asset

Additional Skills

  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, i.e. Ontario Health & Safety Act (OHSA)

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Mechanical aptitude to operate relevant equipment

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather

  • Ability to use heavy tools and lift or move moderately heavy objects (up to 50lbs)

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are an asset

The successful candidate must have a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits. A recent driver’s abstract dated within 30 days will be required if selected for an interview. Persons with 4 or more demerit points need not apply.

Hourly Rate: $26.40 - $28.51
