Job Summary

Under the general supervision of a supervisor in Street Operations, Waste Management or Moving Services, this position performs labour tasks of a general nature involving physical effort. This position may operates specialized equipment on a continuous basis and performs other maintenance activities as necessary.
 

Organizational Status

The Seasonal Labourer 2 reports to the Municipal Manager and receives daily work assignments and directions from the Sub-Head, Head (Waste Management, Street Operations or Moving Services). Responsibilities are performed independently or within a team. 

Work Performed

Assists in hard landscape and other general labour duties using specialized equipment and physical effort to perform maintenance and construction activities. Will be required to work in all weather conditions.

Operates light, medium and heavy vehicles and specialized tools and equipment (including, but not limited to, power washers, backpack blowers, jack hammers, tampers, concrete vibrators, concrete/asphalt coring and cutting equipment, sandblasting equipment, pallet jacks, and any other special equipment.

Requests and receives tools, equipment and material for the work assigned.

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The Labourer 2 determines the most efficient and effective way to operate equipment to perform work; incorrect decisions generally result in minor delays resulting in customer service impacts.

Supervision Received

The Labourer 2 reports to the Manager, Municipal Services and receives daily work assignments and directions from the Head or Sub-Head .The Labourer 2 works from oral and written instructions and according to established departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
-Secondary school education and/or completion of high school, valid BC driver’s license or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Satisfactory driving record. Ability to work at heights and lift a minimum of 50lbs and work in all weather conditions. Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous, patient manner. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
