Job Summary: The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Statue Of Liberty National Monument is June - January, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: June 2026 NOTE: OPM has identified this position as eligible for an exception to the typical 1039 hour season. This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season dates noted above. See additional information section for details.

Major Duties:

  • The main purpose of these positions are to provide emergency response capabilities to medical emergencies and to provide for the safety and health of park visitors, NPS employees, contractors, concessionaire employees, partners and volunteers. Perform and provide emergency medical assistance in the field and clinic setting Responds to call for service including medical emergencies, first aid, lost person, fire alarms, building evacuations, unattended packages, and rescues. Provides information to visitors, assists with trip itinerary planning and answers general questions. Assists in conducting inspections, reporting hazardous conditions, preparing reports, public health concerns and safety monitoring Conducts Safety training including fire extinguisher, evacuation, basic first aid, emergency medical responder, fire alarm and drills.

Qualifications: This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined local commuting area for this position is a radius of 75 miles from the official duty station: Liberty Island, New York Harbor Manhattan, NY 10004. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. SELECTIVE FACTORS - This position performs emergency medical technician duties and the following selective placement factors are required: Current and valid National Registry of EMT's (NREMT) or New York or New Jersey State EMT certification is required Current and valid CPR card You must provide documentation of these certificates with your application package. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). For this position specialized experience is defined as experience providing emergency medical services and basic first aid to patients; assisting in rescue operations; and performing worksite and facility safety and health inspections to ensure they are free of hazards and protect public safety. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate level education in a degree field directly related to the work of the position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
