Job Summary: This position located in Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, in the Interpretation Division. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is June - December, but the season may be extended or reduced due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: June 14, 2026.

Major Duties:

  • Presents curriculum-based education programs for diverse, K-12 school groups. Programs include those associated with the park's education program, within or outside the park's boundaries, as part of ABLI's overall education strategy, consistent with school academic standards and park interpretive themes. Collaborates and communicates with partners and educators from both local school districts in the Central Kentucky area and regional/national school audiences. Assists in curriculum-based program development, including planning, researching, writing, and/or modifying activities, materials and interactive learning tools for use with school groups, based on audience characteristics and park themes and priorities. Track, report, and analyze education and interpretive visitor use statistics to improve services and programs. Use social science data and digital analytics to continue learning about audience demographics, needs, expectations, and trends. Assists in preparation of print and digital materials for education programs, including writing, editing, updating, and production of curriculum, brochures, student and teacher handouts, workshop announcements, bulletins, logistical information, teacher guides, assessment and evaluative materials, promotional and public relations materials. Assists in organizing and presenting training workshops, often in collaboration with partner groups, for teachers and others. Workshops prepare teachers for field trip logistics, train teachers to conduct classroom activities, support park interpretive themes, and promote stewardship of park resources. Responsible for independently researching, developing, and presenting cultural and natural resource formal and informal interpretive programs for the visiting public (up to 100 visitors per presentation). Area Description and Information This position is located at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park located in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Hodgenville is a small town of about 3,000 residents located in rural Kentucky. It is located approximately 45 miles south of Louisville. Hodgenville has a local elementary school, high school and 2 small grocery stores. The closest town is located approximately 12 miles away in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Elizabethtown has schools, a hospital, shopping and restaurants. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 03/31/2026 whichever comes first. Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/31/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: designing and presenting curriculum based educational and interpretive programs either in person or virtual; assisting in planning, organizing, and presenting workshops for students, teachers, or other educators; conducting independent research to develop curriculum-based activities; and assisting with the development of curriculum-based school programs that conform to appropriate state and/or national teaching standards. This type of experience could have been obtained while working as a park ranger, teacher, teacher's aide, tour leader, camp counselor, or other similar work. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate education (18 semester hours) in a field of study directly related to the work of the position such as Education, History, and/or Public History. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of graduate level credits completed and divide by 18. Multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Multiply the resulting decimal by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
