Major Duties:

• This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from the date of appointment/service year. It is expected this position will be terminated upon completion of the seasons work. The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 hours in their service year. As a Seasonal - Biological Science Technician (Fish) your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: For Fish Population Surveys and Studies positions: Participate with Fishery Biologist and other Biological Science Technicians to conduct culvert assessments. Make observations and record data. Assembles basic information on fish populations such as population, size, sex, and age structure, and habitat use. Assists in the collection of fish for population restoration projects; assists with preparation, maintenance, and use of field equipment such as boats, nets, traps, electrofishing equipment, and other equipment as necessary to accomplish routine fishery management and aquatic habitat investigations. For Fish Hatchery and Propagation positions: Performs a variety of standardized tests and assembles information and results for higher-graded personnel. Participates in preparing fish for distribution and loading Treats ponds, raceways, or holding tanks with prescribed chemicals Maintains records of work done and prepares reports. Assists in maintaining all tanks, raceways, troughs, ponds, and related hatchery equipment. Feeds fish specified diet in accordance with instructions.

Qualifications: Only experience and education obtained by 12/12/2025 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position, you must possess both the Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualification [GS-04] Six (6) months of General Experience and six (6) months of Specialized Experience. General Experience is (1) any type of work that demonstrated your ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with biological work. Qualifying Specialized Experience includes any of the following: collecting, identifying, marking, weighing and measuring fish and aquatic organisms; using seines and nets to collect fish; monitoring fish tanks and systems for biological research; and any other work that is performed in a controlled environment which includes research activity or control program work. OR Successfully completed two years of education above high school in an accredited college or university that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of coursework must be directly related to fishery biology, ichthyology, limnology, aquaculture, etc. NOTE: Transcripts are required. OR A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
