In this role, the Seasonal Agricultural Research & Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Scout supports the Washington Ocean Spray Agricultural Sciences Team by working independently and collaborating on a variety of research and pest management projects. Conduct weekly visits and inspections of grower-owned properties for the purpose of monitoring insect, disease and weed pest populations throughout the growing season.
This is a part-time, seasonal position with a work schedule of generally Monday - Wednesday 8 AM - 5 PM. The exact hours are subject to weather, due to some field work being weather dependent. The approximate assignment timeline for this role is April 1, 2026 - September 15, 2026.
Monitor cranberry beds for insects, disease and weeds
Conduct routine insect sweep net samples and counts
Visually inspect commercial cranberry beds
Change pheromone traps/baits weekly
Calculate percent in-bloom and out-of-bloom
Collect insects and weeds for grower reference and identification
Required
Document accurate and precise field notes
Work in all seasonal weather conditions
Pass a background check and driver's record check
Preferred
Efficiently learn and operate IPM software
Communicate effectively with growers and IPM supervisors
Construct maps and summary reports
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift low to medium weight (10-30 lbs) materials on an occasional basis.
Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Requires the ability to drive in a car for long distances or extended periods of time.
Assume awkward positions in the course of working include but not limited to reaching overhead, twisting, bending over, and/or working from a laying position.
