The Target Discovery team is seeking a motivated and committed Scientist, with deep experience in molecular biology, to contribute to the development of gene therapy-based solutions for sensory disorders. A successful candidate will work independently and perform benchwork that supports early discovery efforts, including but not limited to design and execution of screens for candidate therapeutic targets across the Lilly Gene Therapy preclinical portfolio and in vitro and ex vivo assays to test potential leads. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and a creative and expansive thinker, with a desire to succeed in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute in vitro and ex vivo nonclinical experiments for the development of genetic medicines, including the following:
    • Design, conduct, and analyze in vitro transfection and transduction experiments using clonal cell lines and primary cells/tissues, and perform readout experiments including cell-based assays, luminescence readouts, immunostaining, epifluorescence and confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, qPCR, and western blot.
    • Design and conduct single-cell RNA-seq experiments from in vitro and in vivo samples including sample processing, library construction, and data analysis.
    • Microdissection and sterile culture of mouse tissues
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of activities through meticulous electronic lab notebook practices and contributions to reports.
    • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of related scientific literature.
  • Analyze, interpret, present, and discuss experimental data, with the ability to clearly communicate results in written and oral formats for team feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to find solutions and overcome challenges, including assay development and optimization.
  • Organize key lab operations including leading and executing coordinated orders of specialized materials and instruments, and generation and maintenance of databases for samples and reagents.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in cellular/molecular biology, neuroscience, medicine or related scientific field with 2+ years of relevant laboratory work experience; biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred. 

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience with RNA analyses and protein analysis techniques (qPCR, western blot, etc.).
  • Experience with mouse handling, tissue harvest, and microdissection preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team and contribute within a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and electronic notebooks (e.g. Benchling) to support documentation, database tracking of lab operations, samples, and protocols.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$71,250 - $187,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
