Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic experts. You will be a self-motivated molecular biologist with an interest in molecular biology and automation. You will be responsible for providing molecular biology support for the department and for helping to increase our internal molecular biology capacity. The ideal candidate for this role will have skills in molecular biology and some automation experience. The appointee will be capable of good experimental record-keeping and will have excellent written and oral communication skills. An ability to work towards agreed timelines and effectively organise their work will be considered a key asset of the successful applicant.
This role will be based at our client's site in Stevenage, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Generation of DNA constructs in various host systems
Isolation and purification of plasmid DNA
Analysis of DNA sequencing data
Supply DNA constructs across the team
Record data in laboratory notebooks
Proactively involve in evaluation of new technologies and in optimisation of existing protocols to improve the internal molecular biology capability and accelerate the timelines
Work effectively both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary matrix team
Essential Skills:
Degree in Life Sciences or equivalent and 1+ years of laboratory experience in a molecular biology laboratory
Knowledge and experience with molecular biology techniques, such as PCR and primer design, general cloning techniques, PCR, DNA purification, agarose gel electrophoresis
Ability to prioritise work activities and work to the required timelines
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
Excellent organisational skills
Excellent attention to detail
Track record of flexibility and teamwork
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent record keeping skills
Desirable Skills:
Familiarity with modern molecular biology software tools
Experience with analysis of DNA sequencing data
Experience in laboratory automation and running experiments at medium to high throughput
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry
