Summarized Purpose:
We are currently hiring for a Scientist within our client dedicated team based in Stevenage.

To work as part of the mass spectrometry team in the Structural Biology and Biophysics department to support the QC of early phase discovery antibody panels and proteins. The candidate, after relevant training, would be expected to prepare samples for LC-MS workflows, perform MS acquisition, process the data and report back to project teams. Depending on experience this may extend to supporting structural mass spectrometry approaches such as HDX-MS or XL-MS.

This role will be supporting the development of innovative drug delivery approaches, and feedback/observations from the analytical work will be sought to guide future work. A person with an innate scientific curiosity and keen observation skills will have the opportunity to impact the future medicine development.

The role of Scientist is to perform a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to support the QC of early phase discovery antibody panels and proteins. Working mainly independently, Scientists will interpret analytical data in regard to acceptability and consistency and set up and maintain analytical instrumentation.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform a variety of complex sample preparations for LC-MS workflows

  • Sets up and maintains analytical instrumentation. 

  • Trains on routine operation, maintenance and theory of analytical instrumentation, SOPs and regulatory procedures and guidelines. 

  • Ensures QA findings are addressed appropriately. 

  • Problem solving, either independently or with assistance pertaining to extraction and/or instrumentation problems. 

  • Communicates project status to project leader. 

  • Performs work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner. 

  • Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).  

  • Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.

  • May be involved in supporting structural mass spectrometry approaches such as HDX-MS or XL-MS.
     

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemistry/Biology/Biochemistry or similar

  • Previous experience working in an academic or industry laboratory that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • >2 years of laboratory experience in a biophysical, analytical, biochemical laboratory (industry or academic)

  • Practical LC-MS experience, ideally with proteins

  • Ability to troubleshoot Mass Spectrometry instrumentation is highly beneficial

  • Experience with MS processing software packages (eg. Deconvolution)

  • Practical experience working with proteins (incl. antibodies) and understanding of QC relevant features

  • Good working knowledge of antibody architecture and formats

  • Previous experience of working with complex format antibodies, ADCs and AOCs

  • Fluency in English

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
