Your role at Clorox:

As an R&D Product and Process Development Scientist II in Brita , you will lead end‑to‑end development of our products, focused on filters, across the Brita portfolio. You will guide filter development from early concept through design, prototyping, testing, design for manufacturing, scale‑up and start-of-production in partnership with external suppliers, internal plants and external manufacturers. You will translate consumer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility into robust designs in collaboration with design, brand, sales, supply chain, and manufacturers, both internal and external.

This role’s primary focus is on Brita’s filter refill product development, scale-up and launch with ability to extend into broader product development of Brita’s durable goods.

This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office, and the individual will be expected to be in the office a minimum of 3 days a week.

In this role, you will:

In this role you will lead end-to-end product development of our filter refills across the portfolio (pitchers, faucet mount, bottles): 

 

  • Drive Innovation: Develop and refine product formulations and specifications both on internal formulations and by partnering with external filtration technology suppliers that deliver a superior consumer experience, while also creating consumer and customer facing claims and demos.  

  • Execute with Excellence: Apply engineering principles to solve complex Product and Process Scale-up challenges by leading risk assessments & documenting technical learnings from lab-scale experimentation and pilot plant trials to full-scale manufacturing. Partner heavily with external suppliers and domestic and international manufacturers. Leveraging statistical analysis and digital tools to optimize formulations and processing parameters throughout development.   

  • Own the Technical Details: Create and manage product specifications and processing standards to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance. 

  • Support Commercialization: Develop and apply SOPs, test methods, and best practices while leading product testing, consumer tests, production trials to analyze results, troubleshoot issues, and provide insights that ensures smooth scale-up, consumer delight, and successful product launches. 

  • Collaborate Across Functions: Work with R&D, Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to interpret data, meet project objectives, and drive efficiency while managing technical risk. 

  • Reimagine Ways of Working: Demonstrate a mentality of constant improvement and willingness to challenge past ways of working to drive efficiency in your work and present means of improving the work of the broader technical team   

  • Travel up to ~25% to suppliers, plants, and manufacturing partners including international travel. 

What we look for:

Years and Type of Experience: 

  • 3+ years in product or process development preferably with experience in consumer goods partnering with external suppliers on formulation and internal/external manufacturers on scale-up and launch.

Skills and Abilities  

  • Hands‑on testing, methodical problem solving and data analysis grounded in statistics (DOEs, tolerance stacks, PPKs, sample sizes) 

  • Ability to translate consumer needs into technical specifications. 

  • Ability to work in a lab with various materials, including dust.  

  • Fine motor skills to prototype samples  

  • Ability to learn fast, and demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills  

  • Excellent organization and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with international and external partners. 

  • Confident self-starter, critical thinker, capable of working independently and cross-functionally with minimal supervision and direction in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Education Degree: Bachelors or Masters in Chemical, Biomedical, or Materials Science Engineering or time in applicable role(s) after

Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $88,700 - $165,900

–Zone B: $81,300 - $152,100

–Zone C: $73,900 - $138,300
