Scientist, Early CVRM
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Metabolism Bioscience team in the Early Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic area based in Gaithersburg, MD. You will contribute to advancing early-stage drug discovery programs by uncovering novel disease biology, validating new targets, and generating high quality experimental data that drives strategic decisions in the early pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Execute and interpret in vivo experiments focused on CVRM-relevant biological pathways.
Develop, optimize, validate and implement in vivo and ex vivo models of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases to support our Early CVRM pipeline.
Conduct data analysis and clearly communicate results to cross-functional project teams.
Maintain accurate scientific documentation and ensure compliance with safety and quality guidelines.
Stay current with scientific literature and industry advances in CVRM research.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Physiology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 0+ years of relevant experience.
Hands-on experience with animal models, including:
Technical expertise with handling mice and rats, including dosing via intraperitoneal (IP), intravenous (IV), subcutaneous (SC), and oral gavage routes of administration.
Cage handling experience, including cage change, monitoring body weight and food intake.
Expertise in blood collection methods in mice and rats, including sub-mandibular, tail-bleeds, cardiac puncture and vena cava as well as terminal tissue collections including heart, muscle, adipose, and liver.
Strong data analysis and scientific communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting in a fast paced R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry or academic research experience in early-stage drug discovery.
Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, Western blot, ELISAs etc.).
Rodent surgical expertise, including subcutaneous implantation of Alzet pumps, liver biopsies, thoracic aortic constriction (TAC), etc.
Experience working with rodent models of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases – including diet-induced obese (DIO) mice and rats, ZSF-1 rats, genetic cardiomyopathy models, AngII infusion, etc.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $92,252.00 to $138,378. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans
