Salary Range:

School Safety Partner (Grade 17, Exempt). Annual salary range: $102,888 – $128,610. This range reflects the minimum to midpoint of the grade. Salary may exceed the midpoint and will commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

The School Safety Partner is responsible for serving as a regional leader and trusted resource supporting school safety planning, preparedness, and response across Region 5 school districts. This role builds strong partnerships with school leaders, law enforcement, emergency management, mental health providers, and state and national safety organizations to strengthen coordinated, effective
school safety systems. The position provides training, technical assistance, and hands-on support to help districts develop and maintain high-quality emergency operations plans, conduct crisis drills, and implement safety technologies. The School Safety Partner also advances a whole-child approach to safety by integrating prevention, mental health supports, and positive school culture into safety planning. During critical incidents, this role supports regional crisis response coordination and helps districts access expertise, resources, and cooperative purchasing solutions that enhance readiness, resilience, and recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and evaluate their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.

  • Manage workstreams or small projects within a transformational change program, ensuring integration with related projects; use structured change management methodologies to build acceptance of change and embed desired culture and behaviors.

  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement by identifying stakeholders; by finding out their needs, issues, and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues, and concerns, arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment.

  • Mentor, coach, support, and provide advice and guidance for service users, in accordance with guidelines and standards, to support them through issues and times of challenge and vulnerability.

  • Research, collate, and analyze information to identify key themes and deliver a broad range of standardized training and documentation, advice, or reports to support client projects and programs.

  • Analyze specific problems and issues to find the best solutions. Solutions could be technical or professional in nature.

  • Lead a project within coaching, ensuring effective guidance provided in achieving specific goals and feedback delivered for continuous improvement.

  • Design and develop content for training courses to fill gaps in established programs and run complex or customized training courses to meet customers' needs. Involves focusing on a specific functional area.

  • Design community consultation exercises in accordance with defined policies and procedures, and interpret and analyze the results, to help the organization understand community needs and involve the community voice in decision making.

  • Establish links and build relationships with community groups and organizations, and create and coordinate community partnership projects and events, to encourage greater partnership and community interaction with the organization.

  • Follow health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate.

  • Guide a process or project of moderate complexity to implement diverse wellness and mental health strategies and programs.

  • Lead strategic partnering projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with partners, establishing mutually beneficial relationships, and contribute to partnership agreement negotiations.

  • Support specific technology implementation processes, aiding in the optimization of technology use.

  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Additional Job Description:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in related field OR a combination of post-secondary training, professional education, and related experience equivalent to four (4) years.

  • Six (6) years experience with school safety planning, crisis response, and/or equity and trauma-informed approaches or related experience; of which the total years of experience include:

  • School-Based Emergency Management Certificate (or ability to obtain within first year)

  • Experience integrating school safety technologies, platforms, and systems

  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and project management skills

  • Ability to collaborate with K-12 school leaders, law enforcement and public safety partners

  • Ability to work onsite at schools and emergency partner locations across Region 5

Location:

  • Applicants should be located near or in the counties we serve (Region 5) and be able to commute to the office and throughout the region at least 2-3 days a week for meetings and support.

  • On occasion may be expected to attend meetings or trainings at Sourcewell's headquarters in Staples, MN, advance notice would be given to team member.
