ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Education Support
Provides the Education Department with security and the protection of the Tribal Youth whenever attending Education Department-led events.
Is responsible for the security and safe environment of Education Centers.
Monitors education activities and services as the primary responder for services and emergency situations.
Provides security and protective services outside of the Education Center, including educational field trips, or outside activities involving Tribal Youth.
2. Patrol
Patrols and observes the grounds and facilities in a manner consistent with guidelines and applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
Provides security of people, buildings, and assets of the Tribe through a variety of security techniques and methods.
Checks interior of premises for unusual signs, which might indicate illegal entry or activity, and speaks to occupants or visitors to ensure that everything is in order.
Identifies locations and times when incidents or criminal activities may have occurred.
Secures assigned areas, conducts investigations, collects evidence, and prepares appropriate reports.
Monitors CCTV systems and control access software.
3. Tribal Court Hearings
Provides back-up support for the security and protection during Tribal Court Hearings as needed.
Monitors hearings to ensure they are safe and without disruption.
Serves as the primary responder for emergency situations.
Ensures items brought into Tribal Court Hearings are safe.
4. Provides back-up support for the Gaming Commission Hearings as needed and participates in cross-training to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department.
5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in civilian education security or as a Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation DPS Public Safety Officer required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills required.
Strong ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing required.
Strong critical thinking, collaboration, attention to detail, awareness, leadership, time management, and adaptability required.
Experience conducting investigations preferred.
Experience writing post incident reports preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents are required to pass pre- and post-employment screening including Live-Scan, background, drug testing, and tuberculosis (TB) testing.
Minimum POST Reserve Level II certification is required or any recognized law enforcement agency certificate (local, state, federal, military police, or equivalent). Recognized out-of-state certification and/or related experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
As a condition of employment, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the following once hired:
California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Gun and Guard Card are required.
TASER certificate is required.
Expandable baton certification is optional.
Basic School Resource Academy certification is required
First Aid and AED-related training is required.
Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) certification from the Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC) within 12 months of hire.
Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must be willing and capable of working with children of all ages.
Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting or outdoor areas.
Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions such as rain, wind, and cold or hot climates.
Work requires travel to attend meetings, training, and conferences including community events, demonstrations, and events on or off San Manuel properties.
Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts, and/or varying shifts.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone including radio transmissions.
Must be able to maintain an acceptable level of physical condition.
Physically able to withstand the challenges of extensive walking, climbing, and descending numerous interior and external stairs, including multi-level building facilities.
Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
Visual acuity that best describes the requirements of the position: The team member is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection of team members, visitors, or facility.
Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, enter, exit, and operate a motor vehicle, and/or transport employees, children, and adults to locations on or off San Manuel-owned properties.
Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
