NTU SINGAPORE

SASEAF Postdoctoral Fellow

NTU Main Campus, Singapore Full time

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to a project on seismic hazards assessment in Singapore, Indonesia, and the broader Southeast Asia region. The role will focus on multiscale subsurface imaging using advanced geophysical imaging techniques and on investigating how subsurface structure, material composition, and geodynamic processes influence regional seismicity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting regular field work to collect seismic data in Indonesia and Singapore.

  • Seismic data processing and analysis.

  • Implement multiscale subsurface imaging and inversion algorithms to characterize crustal and upper-mantle structures.

  • Integrate seismic, geological, and geodetic datasets to improve models of regional tectonic processes and seismic hazards.

  • Collaborate with international partners on data exchange, joint analysis, and model validation across Southeast Asia.

  • Contribute to the development of regional seismic hazard maps and risk assessment frameworks.

  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present results at international conferences.

  • Supervise or mentor graduate students involved in related research tasks.

  • Prepare technical reports and project deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in Mathematics, Geophysics, Physics, Computer Sciences, or related areas.

  • Strong background in numerical modeling and high-performance computing (HPC) for large-scale data analysis.

  • Experience with seismic tomography, full-waveform inversion, or other advanced imaging techniques.

  • Familiarity with modern data processing workflows and software tools commonly used in seismology and geoscience.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in reputable international journals.

  • Willingness to participate in field campaigns in Singapore, Indonesia, and the broader Southeast Asian region.

  • Experience with machine learning or data-driven approaches for subsurface imaging or hazard assessment (preferred).

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
