Position Overview

We are looking for a Data Engineer to act as technical lead for the administration and maintenance of SAP BI application and its associated infrastructure at Maersk. This role requires extensive experience in SAP BusinessObjects 4.2 application administration, its maintenance, security, technical stack and component evaluation, its integration to the core application engine. This role acts as the technical owner for the SAP BusinessObjects platform, spanning application, middleware, OS, database, authentication, and network layers, with accountability for platform stability, performance, and modernization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining SAP BusinessObjects 4.2 SP9 Patch 6 with WebLogic 10.3.6 and Tomcat 9, including troubleshooting deprecated components and ensuring stability.
  • Managing Windows AD SSO for CRB domain and Azure Application Proxy configurations for secure internet access.
  • Administration of both Windows Server 2019 Standard and RHEL environments.
  • Provide technical recommendations and inputs into architectural decisions of SAP BusinessObjects environment that support both on-premises and cloud-based reporting solutions
  • Develop best practices and standards for administration and maintenance of the application across the organization
  • Implement new integration, maintenance automations, fixes to improve application performance and security.
  • Optimize application performance through appropriate troubleshooting of issues, network limitations and its ease of access for end users.
  • Mentor junior team members and conduct environmental and infrastructure reviews for vulnerability.
  • Collaborate with infra architects to ensure application designs align with enterprise infra strategy
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application access-related issues
  • Proactive monitoring, log analysis, and root cause identification for application, OS, MW, and networking issues.
  • Gathers the functional requirements for application access and availability  
  • Coordinates and prioritizes solution delivery with key internal and external stakeholders  
  • Contributes to change management, release and testing, performance monitoring, and requirements management SAP Business Objects (SAP BI) in order to provide users globally the best possible service
  • Identify, design, and roll-out internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, etc.
  • Work closely with internal customers in an agile manner to understand, decompose and scope technical solutions based on best practice designs that meet and exceed expectations 
  • Maintaining and optimizing clustered SAP BO infrastructure (WebLogic, Tomcat, Windows/Linux OS).
  • Managing connectivity to relational DBs, Dremio, Synapse, and Azure private endpoints.
  • Disaster Recovery planning and backup validation for SAP BO environments.
  • Preparing for BI 2025 upgrade and AI model integration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 5–8 years of experience in SAP BusinessObjects platform administration and operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise platform
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and database optimization
  • Extensive experience with SAP BusinessObjects 4.2 administration.
  • WebLogic 10.3.6 and Tomcat 9 administration experience (JVM tuning, heap sizing, GC analysis, Thread pool, connection pool, and timeout tuning, SSL/certificate lifecycle management, Reverse proxy, Load balancer stickiness, Session replication, Web tier authentication failures).
  • Experience with Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) and APS tuning
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2019 and RHEL troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Windows AD SSO, SAML, and certificate-based authentication.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and networking concepts.
  • Proven experience in leading technical projects
  • Basic understanding of SAP BusinessObjects development
  • Good communication skills.
  • Understanding of Software life cycle.
  • Exceptional analysis skills to prepare application for further use or consumption.
  • Experience in SAP BO infrastructure administration (servers, clustering).
  • Knowledge of JDBC/ODBC connectivity and Oracle client configuration.

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including data engineers, architects, and AI specialists.

  • Basic Python programming for automation and AI integration.
  • Understanding of infrastructure components and its interaction with SAP BOBJ software.
  • Understanding and knowledge of networking layer not just limited to SAP BOBJ software.
  • Experience with BI platform upgrades (preferably SAP BI 4.2 to BI 2025).
  • Knowledge of hybrid architecture (on-prem + cloud integration).
  • Experience optimizing SAP BO for large-scale deployments and high-volume data sources.
  • Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance in BI environments.
  • Knowledge of SAML, certificate-based authentication, and Azure AD integration for secure access.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP BI platform upgrades
