Job Title
Sales Layout Engineer
Job Description
Senior Sales Layout Engineer – RMR Projects
Position Overview
We are looking for a resourceful and technically skilled Sales Layout Engineer to join our highly entrepreneurial Revisions, Modifications, and Retrofits (RMR) team in North America. Based in Marietta, GA, you will play a key role in developing accurate, feasible, and visually compelling system layouts for complex RMR projects designed to optimize and modify existing customer installations. These layouts support solutions that enhance throughput, increase capacity, and improve the functionality of material handling systems installed at both Vanderlande and competitor sites. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role in a fast-paced sales engineering environment, where creative thinking and the ability to quickly adapt layouts to evolving customer requirements are essential. In the first year, you will collaborate closely with international colleagues in the Netherlands to transfer knowledge, tools, and best practices critical to building a self-sufficient U.S. layout capability while gaining valuable global exposure.
Team & Collaboration
You will be part of a dynamic, international team spanning the United States and Europe. In the first year, you will work closely with highly skilled colleagues in the Europe to absorb critical knowledge, tools, and best practices. This collaborative phase is essential to building a strong foundation for the U.S. team. As we upscale our North American capabilities, your contributions will help transition the team toward greater autonomy—shifting from continuous cross-border collaboration to a more independent, locally driven operation, with ongoing support from global experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate and feasible system layouts in AutoCAD for modifications to existing customer installations, ensuring clarity, spatial accuracy, and alignment with customer requirements.
- Analyze existing system configurations and site constraints to create mechanical layout concepts that support proposed solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales Engineers, Sales Consultants, and Business Development Managers to translate customer needs into layout concepts that balance functionality, technology, and cost.
- Adapt layouts quickly and efficiently in response to customer feedback, design updates, and evolving project requirements during the sales phase.
- Ensure layout drawings are clear, visually compelling, and technically correct to support internal reviews and customer presentations.
- Use Navisworks or other 3D viewing tools to review system context and verify spatial integration of proposed modifications within existing installations.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure seamless integration of proposed layout changes into existing systems.
- Provide accurate and well-structured layout documentation to support the transition from the sales phase to project execution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by refining layout standards, templates, and best practices to increase speed and quality in future projects.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, civil, structural, or a related technical field.
- 3-5 years of experience in layout engineering, mechanical design, or a similar technical role within material handling or logistics automation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required. Experience with Navisworks or other 3D viewing tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with modification, optimization, or upgrade projects is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with international collaboration and working across time zones is beneficial.
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally (up to 5-10% of your time)
Preferred Attributes
- Creative and resourceful in developing creative solutions under demanding deadlines.
- Strong mechanical and spatial understanding to evaluate feasibility and optimize layouts.
- Familiar with warehouse automation and logistics processes.
- Comfortable with occasional domestic and international travel.
- Able to thrive in an entrepreneurial, cross-cultural, and collaborative environment.
