A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SI&OP) Demand Planner, Intermediate plays a pivotal role in aligning supply and demand for the North American Operations – Poles Division. A primary focus of this position is the development and management of a robust capacity plan. By forecasting individual line capacities and constraints, the Planner ensures that customer demand is optimally loaded against targets. In addition, this planner will be responsible for aligning individual product line demand plans and site capacity plans across the execution and planning horizon by proactively identifying, analyzing, and calling out any gaps or imbalances between the forecasted demand and available capacity. Success in this role hinges on developing strong, cross-functional partnerships with key stakeholders across sales, finance, marketing, engineering, product management, sourcing, and operations.
Empowered to make decisions that shape the final S&OP plan, the Planner effectively communicates changes, resolves forecast variances by product family and facilitates critical trade-off discussions. By bridging the gap between market demand and factory limits, this role ensures optimal facility utilization without exceeding constraints. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Planner may act as a team leader for special projects and strategic business initiatives, all while consistently demonstrating the core values of the Valmont Way.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Director, Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning – North America and has no direct or indirect reports
- This role requires up to 10% overnight travel (domestic and international)
- Work collaboratively with business leaders to gather, evaluate, and rationalize unconstrained forecast information for 12-18 month capacity plan
- Collaborate with site scheduling teams to ensure optimal product mix schedules in the 12 week and out time horizon
- Initiate loaded work transfers from site to site to optimize product mix load
- Work cross-functionally with the product management group to develop a plan to accommodate emergency drop in orders
- Facilitate trade off discussions between product types in areas of shared capacity
- Align and coordinate with Regional Planning and Operational leaders to support execution activities in alignment with the consensus demand plan
- Facilitate generation of a consensus demand plan aligned with the capacity and capability of supply chain operations for assigned sites
- Assist in development of Annual Operating Plan and reconcile with demand plans
- Organize, facilitate and report on demand planning meetings with multiple market channel and product line owners
- Communicate effectively, both oral and written, any variations or gaps to plan alignment
- Influence and collaborate with key partners in functional teams including, but not limited to: sales and marketing, finance, supply chain, operations, engineering, product management
- Ensure the demand & capacity plans are shared in the format, level of detail and timing required by all customers and supply chain partners including documented assumptions
- Capture, analyze and translate demand signals into meaningful requirements plans for material, capacity and other supply chain resources
- Evaluate buying patterns of key customers and create recommendations for review of how Valmont should plan future production capacity, inventory, and service components to support these patterns
- Use what-if analysis and create scenarios and recommendations to determine risk and up-side potential for demand plans
- Ability to work within high-performing teams and is highly collaborative
- Identify S&OP KPIs impacted by demand planning activities and outputs
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s degree with 8+ years of experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
- Valid passport
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerBI OR other relevant business analytic tools
- APICS CPIM, CFPIM, SCOR-P or CSCP certification, or successfully complete certification within 18 months of hire date
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing techniques
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into high-level analysis and demand planning
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success at building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
- Bilingual – ability to communicate in English and Spanish
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field is preferred
- Prior experience orchestrating a multi-tiered demand plan and evaluation of end-to-end supply chain impacts
- Prior experience in finance, sales and marketing or manufacturing operations
- Ability to analyze large amounts of data, reach clear conclusions and translate those conclusions into actionable results
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Sets aggressive targets, accepts consequences of actions, and holds others accountable
- Thinks globally about the entire business and committed to supporting the needs and goals of an integrated global organization
- An understanding of priorities and balances short-term and long-term requirements

- IFS or similar ERP system high-level user
