Description:
Provide services that support a safe and secure environment. Perform activities aimed at identifying, deterring, abating, or correcting situations—both routine and emergent—within the scope of responsibility. Adhere to MercyOne’s performance expectations and carry out all assigned duties in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne.
Essential Functions
- Provide continuous professional and therapeutic presence within the unit.
- Monitor and visit clients in their rooms to identify issues and resolve concerns.
- Conduct one-on-one therapeutic interactions with patients to deter escalations.
- Intervene appropriately when clients exhibit escalating behaviors.
- Take precautionary measures as necessary to maintain safety.
- Communicate issues or concerns to Behavioral Health staff and management.
- Ensure the safety of clients, visitors, and staff.
- Document activities and services accurately, completely, and in a timely manner according to regulations.
- Report any unsafe working conditions.
- Request assistance when needed to ensure safety for all parties.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow safe work practices.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and employee health policies and procedures.
- Attend required safety programs.
- Consistently utilize required personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of departmental emergency procedures, including fire, disaster, and other emergencies.
- Actively participate in scheduled drills (e.g., Code Red, Code Green) and regulatory safety standards.
- Complete and route incident reports appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Use equipment safely and appropriately.
- Report and remove unsafe equipment or furniture.
- Demonstrate a visible working style consistent with MercyOne Values.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
- Ability to de-escalate situations safely and promptly.
- Ability to write complete and accurate departmental reports.
- Ability to respond effectively to stressful or emergent situations and manage time constraints.
- Demonstrated cooperative, courteous, and dependable work habits with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills—listening, verbal, and written.
- Strong commitment to high-quality customer service.
- Ability to plan, organize, and complete work in a timely and orderly manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Creative and positive problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Experience
- One (1) year of prior patient safety or security/criminal justice experience.
- Experience in behavioral health settings.
Required Certifications
- Mandatory Reporter certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Non‑violent Crisis Intervention certification.
