Job Details

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide technical direction and guidance with regards to compliance with NFPA codes, Joint Commission standards, and state and local fire codes.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain the Joint Commission required electronic Statement of Conditions for applicable Christiana Care facilities.

Inspect buildings for compliance with applicable fire codes; determine, initiate, and oversee corrective actions.

Develop designs and strategies for fire protection improvements to Christiana Care facilities.

Serve as liaison with the hospital’s insurance risk underwriter, life safety consultants and fire marshal’s Office.

Review construction and renovation projects to ensure appropriate life safety and fire protection standards and codes are followed.

Provide input on the selection and installation of proposed fire protection systems to the Fire Protection Supervisor.

Ensure appropriate documentation is accurately maintained as required for compliance with authorities having jurisdiction.

Serves as a member of the Environment of Care Committee and chairperson for the Life Safety Sub-Committee.

Develop and or maintain policies and procedures related to life safety.

Assist Christiana Care staff and contractors with life safety interpretations on compliance issues.

Respond as needed to fire, hazardous materials incidents, patient decontamination, confined space rescues, medical assists, or other emergency situations at Christiana Care facilities.

Participate in emergency management exercises and respond to actual events.  Serve as a member of the Incident Management Team.

Maintains continuing dialogue with City, County, and State agencies on matters related to life safety and fire prevention as necessary to promote and protect Christiana Care interests in these jurisdictions.

Attend and participate in various meetings/committees as assigned.

Attend and participate in various internal inspection processes. Provide direction in Life Safety in preparation activities for Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agency inspections.

Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established department safety rules and practices.

Correct and report to Corporate Director of Environment of Care & Emergency Management any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to any occupant.

Implement projects or activities to continuously improve life safety programs.

Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

AS or BS Fire Science, Fire Prevention, Safety Management or other related field.

5 years experience with fire protection and life safety programs.

Experience interpreting and applying the National Fire Codes (including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code), Joint Commission standards, and state/local codes to healthcare and business occupancies and construction/renovation activities preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of National Fire Codes (including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code), Joint Commission Standards, and fire protection design.

Knowledge of safety practices for general industry and construction.

Knowledge of proper life safety system installations.

Ability to respond, mitigate, and resolve emergency incidents quickly, efficiently, and safely.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.

Ability to use computer software for e-mail, word processing, data maintenance, and presentation functions.

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written.

Ability to analyze situations objectively and solve problems.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Acceptable drivers record in good standing

Annual Compensation Range $73,611.20 - $117,790.40

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
